Buy it for $1k. Sell it to a dealer here for $1.5k. Everyone profits?

Different countries can handle things slightly different from time to time. So maybe that acounts for it, but it does seem odd that they would have a cut off at 25 years. The RSC in the US will service older watches.

Then again the RSC in NY won't service watches with exotic dials like the Red Sub, but Dallas and San Fransico which are not owned by Rolex I understand will.

Check the movement out and if looks good. Pay him the $1500

If you try and talk him down too far. He may try his luck someplace else

Hands turning could be the clutch spring is worn, broken (low priced part) or the grease in the area is dried out, sticking and clutch won't pop back into the winding position (spring would push the clutch back into the winding position).

Wear it on a leather strap for now and save on the bracelet

Buy a used bezel and spring to match. Nothing looks worse than a aged dial and new case parts.

There's an old saying.

The watch actually keeps ok Time he set it before he brought it in and it was on point 2 hours later but if you shake it the second hand moves!~
Actually look at this pic....

He set the watch about 7 AM and I did not even realize it untill I was looking at the pics that it holds GREAT time for never being serviced in 25 years so it might not be as expensive as first thought if I can repair the bracelet and source a bezel!

After the offers that I got on the watch I might just flip it so I can get my Tudor pre-tiger with black rotating bezel and silver dial with white sub-dials.
I don't know it is one or the other buy the watch and fix it up so in 6 months I have a nice vintage sub or flip for Tudor pre-tiger chrono that I have been wanting for years!!

What to do!!

ebay is a pain in the rump, and there is risk, but it gets a deal done.

Well I have been getting so many pm about this watch that it blows my mind but I don't even own it yet .. I am not really even sure if I am getting it or will sell it. I had no intention of selling but when the offers came in I am now reconsidering.
If I get it then I will not have the money to bring it up to par so might as well let it go to someone that has the resources to make it new again..
We will see and I will get back to everyone when I get a chance. I know I can make more on eBay but if I am going to let it go it will be to someone here that will cherish it!

Great advice from everyone here. My 2c is that if you are prepared to spend $2k on repairs and a bracelet then go for it. I really love restoring rough pieces like this one. ABC Watchwerks in Los Angeles is a good alternative and might be better on price than RSC in NY. if the dial and hands can still be used, I would avoid using RSC since they would likely replace them. That is unless you want a NEW looking dial and handset. Your call really, but it would be a shame to see that dial disappear into Rolex's trash bin if it can be saved.

I like the NTE approach - only AFTER you've had it checked out by Rolex to see what you are getting yourself into...

I wouldn't pay more than $1000 - even that is risky.

Post pictures and let us all know what happens!

Please count me second in line if you decide to pass. Father's Day is approaching, and well, I happen to know a watchmaker who would do the work for me...
