Hi Buddy - thanks. I kind of sneaked it in, yes! I just got the SD in November, and then took it straight to my AD in Zurich, or one of them (Beyer) and left it there for a movement-only service, and new seals/pressure test. No polish! They thought I was weird, as if I sent it to Geneva, it would come back 'like new' - exactly! No thanks! Just got it back on Monday. I love it, man! Especially the faded insert

Here's what they did with the complete overhaul:

Overhaul incl. replacement of centre wheel,
datedisque, third wheel, spring, bascule
Water resistance OK

700 bucks, but worth it, I think

Don't see too many modern SD with faded insert. Is this something in general we might start seeing more of?

Maybe, but I haven't seen many either. It is 23 years old, so although 'modern' it must have had some use and weathering. This is why I fell in love with it - the creamy patina on the hour plots and in the bezel pearl are gorgeous, IMHO, along with a very sharp case and that sexy insert.

Hi, thanks - yes, the GMT & SUB are on suede. I got them from this guy in Italy, whom I found on VRF: Massimiliano (Login tantovincoio). Just go to the VRM and do a search for 'Suede and leather handmade Italian NATO straps'

Nice watches by the way
Off topic a bit, and as a Rolex fan I shouldn't even say it, but didn't Smiths also have a watch with Sir Edmund Hillary with Rolex to the top of Everest? I dunno, nothing against the Explorer, but I think he got the trilogy right, great collection!
