If someone points a gun at your head and demands your watch, it really wouldn’t matter if you were armed or not.

I loved the days I used to walk around rough areas with my Patek/Rolex on, if by chance someone noticed it they just thought it was fake from looking at what I was wearing.

Attributing this to RM is like saying this is why I never want to be wealthy!!! Makes no sense.
Situational awareness and insurance is all you can do. If someone shows me a gun I’d gladly give them what they want. I ain’t no damn super hero nor have anything to prove.

Hope they catch the criminals.
So true.

Unfortunately this happened in La county. The new DA (Gascon) is not prosecuting much of anything these days. The perps will get a slap on the wrist and will be back on the streets shortly. It’s a sad state affairs these days in LA. No more justice for true victims.

When I was younger living in Los Angeles I’m pretty sure anyone that noticed my watch thought it was fake . Now I’m considerably older and living two hours from Los Angeles , I’m sure they still think my watch is fake .

I understood that there was probably a joke in the thread even before I knew the contents of the post and it was crystal clear when I read the OP.

Exactly. This crime has nothing to do with Covid or not being able to “find a job”. It’s some dirtbag criminals taking advantage of the opportunity to steal with impunity. Chances of getting caught practically zero and if they are caught the penalties are almost non existent.

You should read the thread and quote the entire post.

People were wondering how this could happen in such a safe place like Beverly Hills.

My point was... This could happen anywhere as the pandemic has really hurt people and some are desperate and committing crimes even more out in the open than normal.

Sad experience but it shouldn't be pinned on the RM.

Hopefully watches will do the same. If not the only place we will be able to enjoy our watches is at home. Even that might be risky.

I couldn’t agree more. Last year I had a 10 year old and his mother in my office and the 10 year old looks down at my wrist and says woah, is that a Rolex and I said your right kid it is. But if 10 year olds can spot these, it’s getting nuts. And with a nice watch RM, Rolex, PP, AP what ever it’s easy to unload and is high in value from a thief’s perspective. I imagine less of a head ache than carjacking from their perspective too. The hype has turned me off and so I’m wearing my Rolex less and less these days.

Correct. The new DA’s policies are causing a huge spike in crime.

This should be a safe area. There has also been a huge uptick in Rolex robberies on Melrose Avenue.

Question, because I just don’t know...how many of these RM watches are there out there? I imagine a $500k watch would be much, much more difficult to “fence” than, say, a used Rolex DJ or Sub. I would guess that there are even more “Platonas” out there than this watch.

Definitely. I have to imagine when/if that guy were to try and unload it, he would have major issues offloading it. And anyone who has ~500K or so to drop on a watch will have obvious questions which will need to be answered.

It’s possible that the thief would settle for 250k for the bidder with no questions. Just wants the watch to brag to their social circle. It seems every B list rapper has a few RMs in their rotation.

Very possible! Or the thief already had a buyer on hand.
