Almost time to for 1st Rolex..

Just joined -- time to purchase my first Rolex is almost here, and figured that this would be a good place and learn what I need to learn to complete this purchase.

At first I thought my first purchase would be a DJ 41, Fluted Bezel and blue diamond dial, jubilee bracelet.

I had zeroed in on this choice, because 2 of my other watches are sport dive models (A PAM luminor 1950, and a Breitling Seawolf 2), and I have 1 dress watch (1970's Omega Constellation).

But as the time draws near, I can't help but be swayed by the beauty of some of the dressier Submariner combinations.

So now my list of possible 1st Rolexes is:

Sub 16613 TT - Blue dial
Sub 16613 TT - Silver Serti dial
Sub 116613 TT - Blue dial
DJ 41, SS, Blue diamond dial.

At this point I think the decision is going to be made on the spot when I get a chance to try on the 16613's .. - I firmly believe that you have to try on a watch before buying it.

Anyways, looking forward to learning from this forum. -- I know some folks might say that a SS Sub (ceramic or pre-ceramic) is more of a pure first Rolex, but i can't bring myself to buy that model, seen too many of them in the wild.

Welcome to the forum. The 116613 Blue sunburst dial is an amazing watch. That would be my recommendation. Good luck and happy hunting. Post a pic when you pick one up.

Big fan here of the 5-digit 16613 TT sub. The sunburst dial really pops in the sun.

The 6-digit Subs have wider lugs but that does not seem to bother too many folk.

A watch with a little bling like the TT Sub is nice.

I'm big fan of Sub 116613 TT - Blue dial. This was my initial 1st Rolex buy.

Your location says Seattle. I recommend Ben Bridge on Pike. I have purchased there before and liked it.

That's where i picked up my PAM 1523 a few months ago.

Any recommendations for sourcing a used 16613? .. or would the classifieds at TRF be as good as it gets.

the two tone older sub is a spot on watch, whichever the dial you can't go wrong.

You said yourself... You need to try on the watches before making a final decision. You seem pretty knowledgeable already, but you shouldn't be too locked in to a particular piece before you actually try it on. Be open minded and try other models besides the ones you listed.
