Omega AD offered me two for my Sub Date

I was browsing around my local Omega boutique today and I tried on the newest SMPc and an Aqua Terra on rubber with deployant. I was very impressed with both pieces. The salesman was admiring my two month old 116610LN Sub Date and mentioned if I had the box papers they’d take my watch plus $500 for the two Omega’s. He figured $4K for the SMP and $4500 for the AT and they valued the Sub at $8K so I’d throw in $500 to top off. Honestly it took all of my willpower to not make that deal. Would you have done it?

Hard to part with a Sub, especially given today's AD situation, but I do completely love both of those Omegas!

No

or if you really want to
  1. Sell yours for 10k
  2. Buy both for 3k a piece, they give discounts on these (at least I heard).
  3. Keep the extra money in your pocket.

They will probably turn around and sell your Sub Date for 9K and then use the $500 cash to throw an office party.

Yeah, the Omega AD made a good offer, but not great. Just buy the Omega you want and keep the sub. The Omega(s) will be worth 35-50% less as soon as you walk out of the boutique.

Would not even think about doing that. There are some Omega ADs out there that will give you 25-30% off MSRP.

No. Way.

Used prices on Omega vs Used on Rolex = 3:1.

Now if they offered you THIS: https://www.omegawatches.com/en-us/w...23150392106002

Then go for it.

I wouldn't trade it since in 10 yrs your Sub would still likely to keep its value but Omega would probably be worth much less than how much you paid for them now.

Not a chance in hell would I take that deal.

Just on dollars - street price of the Aqua Terra is about $4,000 and $4,500 for the SMP. So, $9000.00 for the Sub. I mean, maybe a wash in cash.

But on the whole Rolex v. Omega thing? There's no way unless you're an Omega guy. If you are, why'd you get a Sub and not those two Omegas? I assume you're a Rolex guy, so you made the right call.

While I have always been a huge Omega fan, I would not have done that deal either. There are many, many SMPc and Aqua Terra models immediately available. I see those two every time I visit the Boutique. I will admit, they are both excellent models. And I have really looked long and hard at the new SMPc. While I agree it is a lot of watch for the money, there is something about it that holds me back, and makes me lean toward the Rolex. So I have ended up ordering a Subc 114060. I still think it - and your's as well - are both better than the Omega. Not even to mention the comparison in resale values. When I try on the Omega SMPc it somehow feels more like a dress watch to me than the Rolex SubC. No offense meant, but I still feel Rolex has the best build quality.

Cheers,
Carl

Love Omega too, but in no way would I give up my Sub, a watch that, presently, really cannot be re-acquired. Plus, it would take 2 Omegas time to save up to get back the Sub. Be glad you kept it.

Never in a million years would I trade a Rolex for an Omega unless it was that white snoopy Daytona looking thing.

Yes I’m glad I held firm. I’ll likely buy that AT at some point though. That watch was just mint and the rubber with deployant was much nicer than I expected. $5400 retail I should have no trouble getting it for around $4200-4300 I’m thinking.
