Bloodhound LSR - No Rolex

The bloodhound LSR (formerly SSC) made the news this morning as the tests were completed. But what striked me was that there no Rolex advertising on the car and no green. All pointing to the fact that Rolex is no more sponsoring the project. Since that project was the backbone of the new Air King design, i really think the model is going to get discontinued this year. This model makes no sense anymore, so why would they upgrade the movement?

Furthermore, if you look at the new cockpit of the LSR, the Rolex gauges were removed!

So goodbye Milgauss and AK!

What?

What does that have to do with this thread?

Congrats btw! The yellow gold sub is something else.

My SS Datejust cost more than my daily driver too haha

The Anolog Rolex clocks have Definitely gone been replaced with digital screens

https://www.thedrive.com/news/30986/...nd-lsr-cockpit

Can't see Rolex continuing with the current Air-king ..not been s sponsor of the new team
Will be interesting to see if they end all of the millgauss based watches as you just don't see any of the millgauss based watches in the ADs any more -- I have not seen any at least for the last 6 months

I'm not getting rid of my AK... it's wholly unique even as it is different than the rest of the line.

The AK Could become one of the lowest production Rolexs of all time 4 years.

From being one of the most disliked watches to a collector's piece overnight....roll on march 2020

I love the Air king it's got a fantastic dial
The green..yellow just rocks

That’s a pity.
I imagine the endorsement deal was made worth the previous owners and didn’t get passed on for whatever reason.

Makes you wonder what happened to those clocks!

Firstly the AK is one of my favorite models so not hating on it..

BUT...I dont get the concept?

Its marketed as an aviation watch but the dial came from the previous bloodhound?
How do these go together or is it a sexy special land and air model?
Hodinkee articles mentions the bloodhound and shows the dials so I presume this marketing material was provided by Rolex.
But on the Rolex website I dont think it has ever mentioned the bloodhound or at least I dont see it now?

So maybe it wont be discontinued as for the mass market the blood hound is not linked to to the watch?

If it goes next year I do wonder if it will go up in value?

wow can someone explain or do we need Scooby & Shaggy to solve this mystery of design and marketing!

The design is taken straight from the Rolex dial of the Bloodhounds Chronometer. (As it was).
The chronometer fitted to the car was specifically designed to time the one hour turnaround you cannot exceed when attempting a world record speed attempt as two runs must be made within the hour.
The chronometer on the car itself, the dial of which is reproduced on the watch, what looks like the minute hand times the seconds from 0 to 60 seconds, what is the hour hand on the cars chronometer is actually showing the minutes elapsed within that hour, obviously on the watch, the hour hand shows the hours.
This is why the dial on the watch looks like a 60 minute timer, because that’s all the clock in the car is designed to time.....1 hour elapsed time.
There is a sub dial on the cars chronometer which displays the time of day, that sub-dial is absent from the watch.

very interesting, whats the link to aviation though? Or is it because its effectively a jet engine used?

I don’t know the timing of the sponsorship being withdrawn.

Maybe Jessi Combs death in a jet car informed Rolex’s decision.

There is none. It was always a contorted concept. I always thought the watch would have been better off with a different name, and would have looked better had it more faithfully replicated the Bloodhound clock dial, rather than fly in the "reject" Roman numerals from the discontinued Explorer 39 Mk.1.
