My first vintage
Thought I would share. I recently got a 1680 Sub from a trusted dealer here on TRF. My decision to wear a classic everyday is close to reality. I will wear this one on a RubberB band and replace the bezel insert with a service insert.

Hi
Why would want to replace the insert with a service one ? Even if it’s not in mint condition it surely have a better look with its mk3 Nice watch BTW ! Best Envoyé de mon iPhone en utilisant Tapatalk |

Looks great. Congrats. But I would never put anything Rubber on that icon. However, it would look awesome on a NATO if you’re opposed to wearing it on the bracelet.

Yea I figured I would take some heat for that. I have worn a 14040M on a RubberB for 6 years and really have enjoyed it. Sold it to help pay for the 1680 and the buyer was thrilled about the condition of the bracelet (basically new).

Why replace the insert??? Looks good to me. Thin font service inserts have no place when you have the original one

Congrats and I would recommend keeping the current fat font insert. It makes a big difference compared to a slim font service insert.

Well I will try to understand the difference when I get the service insert. I wish the insert corrosion at the 50 was fixable. I plan to keep it because it was the original 1979 insert no matter what.
Thanks for all the feedback. I figured I would not be popular with wearing on a RubberB and replacing the insert. Might be a game changer for this modern Rolex Collector. Who knows... M |

Well it turns out that you guys were correct. Decided to not get a thin font service bezel insert. If I can get a correct insert I will, if you I will figure out how to get a pearl repair.

I love the plastic dome ! Is it called a superdome or what? I have seen 5513s called superdome. What is a 1680 called?

I like the rubber band too. Looks great with that watch. Also, great insert. It may have a few blemishes but still looks outstanding!

looks great!
I don't get caught up on bands, I think swapping them is part of the fun of vintage. At least the rubber strap gels with "diver purity" of the watch. That being said, I've been known to rock a brown italian suede strap with my 16800...

Damage to the bezel insert is to a 1680 what a dueling scar was to Prussian officers in the early 1800s; a badge of honor. Wear it proudly.
