It’s extreme heat resistance is the same as carbon fiber. Considering you see carbon fiber defusers and exhaust tips, there is no chance your watch will melt if dropped in boiling water. You can dent it with a pointed extreme impact but it won’t shatter like ceramic. It also will flex back to its original shape under these extreme impacts. A SS case hit with the same force would be significantly worse as it’s case shape may be distorted/bent. On both these extreme circumstances the watch is the last of your worries. The normal everyday diving abuse won’t put a mark on Carbotech where SS is like butter in comparison. I have personally hit my Carbotech on a dive underwater against a bridge pier stone so hard my Rolex bezel and crystal would have been shattered with a major dent in the side of it’s case. I was sick when I hit my Panerai fully expecting to see a mark or scuff. Nothing. Not even a hairline scratch under magnification. I was sold this watch will last longer than any steel watch and probably look mint it’s entire life. The real reality of how we WIS might view this material is it’s unique circular striations is very pleasing to study. It’s exterior fit and finish and engineering is easily visible. It’s a very bespoke look if that is what you are after. So much more interesting than my typical ceramic flat black watches that is more one dimensional. CARBOTECH™ EXTREME PERFORMANCE The Carbotech™ is a composite material based on carbon fibre, never before used in the world of watchmaking. As well as providing exceptional technical performance, Carbotech™ has an uneven, matt black appearance, which varies according the cutting of the material: the result is that each example is unique. The structure of Carbotech™ is designed to enhance both the aesthetics and the performance of the material, which is used to make the case, the rotating bezel and the lever bridge which protects the winding crown. To form the plates of Carbotech™ from which these components are made, thin sheets of carbon fibres are compressed at a controlled temperature under high pressure together with a high-end polymer, PEEK (Polyether Ether Ketone), which binds the composite material, making it even stronger and more durable. With this structure, the mechanical properties of Carbotech™ are much higher than those of similar materials or of other materials used in the world of watchmaking, such as ceramics and titanium: Carbotech™ is lighter than these and much more resistant to external solicitations, as well as being hypoallergenic and not subject to corrosion. |

It sounds impressive, and from comments it is not possible scratch or ding, which is important, because as I understand the material it cannot be re-finished.
As with any watch of reasonable size there are going to be occasions when it is inadvertently smacked against a fixed object. From the sounds of things it can withstand those situations without resulting damage, which is pretty cool.

Apparently, according to the local authorised dealer, the Panerai production line is working at 25% capacity.
After initally having been told by the authorised dealer this model would be available in July, today I'm told this model will not be available until December 2020 according to my authorised dealer, but I'm not a buyer from them anyway.

Nice! Congrats! Thanks for following up, so cool that the lume color is counterintuitive. Definitely a talking point. When you get a chance, please post some pics or start a new thread with pics. Looking forward to checking them out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Wow congrats! Please do post some pics to make us more envious! Things here in the US really got bogged down this year, at least for the large cities, first the virus-driven shutdown then the protest-stemmed looting... as of earlier this week my boutique is still telling me expecting US delivery end of June or early July

OK, wow, very interesting.
How does it feel on your wrist wearing it, being such a lightweight material? Is it good or annoying?
