Submariner rehault or not..?
Buying a 16618 Submariner rehault, is this more desirable then a 16618 watch without other than showing its a newer watch ect. Still cant make up mind, which one to go for Rehault, or older watch with or without pin holes........

Short answer no all watches have a rehaut its part of the case ring the only difference would be pricing down to the age of watch. It was around 2004 Serial F/D on some models the Rolex Rolex Rolex branding started on the Rehaut ring, but not on all models in the same time period..

All watches have a rehaut, it is part of their structure.
If you mean engraving, it's a matter of choice and the era in which the watch was made. Neither is more desirable, it simply denotes a cosmetic change in time.

Agree with this. My collection is mid-2000s and later so they all have rehaut engraving. I personally like it; to each their own.

I like the understated nature of the engraved rehuaut. No large font, unlike the ORIGINAL GAS ESCAPE VALVE, RING LOCK SYSTEM on another certain reference.

Engraved is not so important. Condition is however key. :)

It is really a matter of personal taste. When I was hunting for my Explorer 1 (114270) I first wanted the newer model with the engraved rehaut. But later I realized that the model without the engraved rehaut looked much better. At certain angles and under certain light conditions the engraved rahaut is just too busy for me on such a classic and smooth watch. So I went for a 2001 model even though I could have had a 2007 model for only a little extra money.

Personally I would want it. In the end of the day, no one would notice that detail except you. I love small details and enjoying the engraving for some reason. Nothing to do with age of the reference or not, just a personal preference. In today’s market, the engraving indicates a newer watch, so on a scale I’d assume they would command a bit of a premium (unrelated to the rehaut), simply just because it is a newer reference.
If I was in the market and a deal came up on an older model, I wouldn’t let it be a deciding factor. Like when I was shopping for a home, it is a “nice to have”, but not a deal breaker. |

16618 was produced for quite a few years so there are variations of the watch, the engraved rehault is just one of those changes. The watch had holes case and no holes cases. Tritium to Luminova. I believe the bracelets all had solid end links. The engraved rehault that the OP mentioned. Also the edition of the laser ethced crown on the crystal. Really depends on the vibe you are going for. Want a nice early piece, or do you want a later piece that represents the culmination of all the changes. I believe the watch had the same 3135 movement throughout. Have fun with your choice.

Admittedly, there are fewer 16618s with the rehaut around (like Loevhagen's), since the rehaut was introduced towards the end of its production (M serial plus a few years). It doesn't seem they are more or less desirable than the "no-rehaut" ones.
As mentioned above, for preowned, condition of the watch is of paramount importance. I went for one with a "holes case" because I like the chamfers on those 5 digits. |

Given the choice I’d avoid the engraved rehaut. Not so fussed about pins or not, like both so wouldn’t be a factor.

Would go for pins on a 16710 because it’s the only watch I ever change the bracelet. Although mostly it stays on Jubilee. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

At least try both on at the same time before you decide.

Thanks for all the replies, will buy either a Rehalt or plain, I do prefer a no pinhole but again what I buy will depend on condition & papers ect. So the search begins for both a gold Sub & Yachtmaster MOP mk1, unless anybody on here has something to meet my purchase requirements. Thanks again.

I would prefer one of the earlier ones before they changed the cut of the crown guards and I’d buy on condition.

Just the 16618 has two variations of crown guards. The early variation is the exact same shape as the 16610, the later variation is shown above, the crown guards are slightly rounded where they meet the case. Not many folks will have ever noticed this but I did because I’m a WIS.. I think around 2005 this changed??
