Embarkation

Interesting how the two barks are so similar, and yet very different.

(I say “the” two barks, I’ve never seen a platinum nor rose gold bark - Are there any such?)

Good photo showing the bark detail. These bracelets really stand out.

I don't think a rose gold bark exists. I haven't seen one, but surely it could be done. Platinum might be more tricky. I am lead to believe the reason platinum Day Dates don't have fluted bezels is because the platinum is too difficult to machine to make a proper fluted bezel. This is supposedly why all platinum Day Dates have domed bezels. I'd imagine if that rationale held true, it would be hard to properly "bark" a platinum bracelet.

This is just my conjecture, I am hardly a jeweler or expert.

Thanks all - Ravager135, I’ve read that same explanation re fluted platinum bezels here, but I’m not at all confident in it. They can do the extensive and precise milling necessary to make platinum case interiors, so it seems likely they could make fluted platinum bezels if they wanted.

I’ve also read here that the bracelets’ bark decoration is not milled, but rather is stamped into the President bracelet links - Anyone know if that’s true?

As to rose/pink/red gold, I assume there is a lot of overlap between a) the years when Rolex offered the bark decoration option and b) the years when they did not offer the DD in rose gold. It seems improbable that the overlap is exact, though. Does anyone know for what span of years the bark was offered, and/or what years there were no rose gold DDs? Perhaps the no-rose-DD years were all of the 5-digit years, 1977-1999?
