126600 plus cash for a white 16520?
Hey guys, here is a slightly tricky one.
I've an opportunity to pick up a nice U serial zenith. Looks to be in pretty good nick - see photo below. This comes with papers as well. Question is - is it worth trading in my 126600 for, plus a 10k USD top up on my end? Mine is NOS from 2018, and even though its gorgeous I haven't worn it as I have fairly slim wrists. Comments, criticisms all welcome! Sent from my ELS-NX9 using Tapatalk |

Personally I've always thought the Daytona to be an unattractive piece for so many reasons. So my answer would be not to do the trade. Especially considering the additional cash outlay. However, watch collecting has never been a rationale hobby - got to go with what makes you really happy. My .02

Thanks fellas for the prompt and incisive comments.
Another option would be to trade a 116710ln (with a slightly higher top up of course). Less of a Rolex 'special' than the SD43, but equally a very comfortable watch that's been discontinued. Thoughts? Sent from my ELS-NX9 using Tapatalk |

I wouldn’t. Keep your money and get a 116500 when you can. That metal bezel is a scratch magnet.

You're the only one to know that which watch you will enjoy the most and go for it.

I would but I’m biased to the earlier models vs the robust newer ones & the 16520 comes w papers too.

Its a no brainer. Getting another Red SD43 at retail is just a short wait time. Getting a Zenith/White Dial Complete set is harder and harder to come by as well as continuing to rise in price.........Just Do It!!!

I'm guessing, when you could buy one of these for $9,000-$10,000, not that many years back, you thought they were overhyped and overpriced as well......

If you do not wear the SD43 and will wear the Daytona, I would trade / buy it. I have a C6 Z06 CORVETTE that I drive 2,000 miles a year. Aka GARAGE QUEEN and some say that I do not drive it enough. That being typed, I am in the market for an SD43 and my plan is to wear it everyday. Point being, I don’t understand dropping over $10K on a watch and not wearing it, like some don’t understand buying a Z06 CORVETTE and driving it less than 50 miles a week. I am brand new to Rolex and have not ever even owned one YET, but do beat my Tag Heuer Aquagraph daily. Albeit about a fifth of the price of the SD43 that I will soon acquire and plan to wear everyday. I really like both watches, so IMO you are in a good position.

Fun story: there’s a Daytona in my family, and it’s been my first exposure to Rolex. For years in my youth, it made me dislike the brand. “Why doesn’t it tell you the date?” “What’s the point of a tachymètre in our era?” “Why is the bracelet made of tin foil?”.
And yet people rave and rave about. 20 years later, I still don’t get it. I’ve seen numerous exemples in person, and unless it’s an opulent gold/green specimen, I still feel nothing for it. Went to a party organized by friends, and 3 had Daytona’s. To me, they didn’t look very good on the wrist. So I can say with confidence, I don’t get the hype. It’s not an ugly watch, and for MSRP, maybe they would be ok. But the current ask price make them not worth it IMO. If you want a chronograph, there’s many other options out there. |

If it were an even trade, it’s a no brainer. The 10k on top is steep. As mentioned in an earlier response, see if you can save some money pursuing a different Daytona...maybe a black dial, maybe a 116500, etc
Better to have a watch you will wear and enjoy. If you have slim wrists, the proportions of the Daytona will be much more favorable. Best of luck. |

Do it if you really want a 16520. In 10 years a 16520 won’t be as easy to find.
But if it were me and I wasn’t wearing the SD43 and wanted a Daytona, I’d trade it for a 116500 or 116520. But that’s just because I prefer the newer Daytona’s to the Zenith versions. |
