is there a difference between the 5990 and the 5164 in that regard? Ive never had issues with accidentally pushing the buttons on my 5164.

Same here, in fact the buggers don't go down easily even with fingers.

The 5990 pushers are on the right side, that would be touching the wrist for left hand wearers. The 5164 is on the forearm side. I personally don't think accidentally pushing them would be a big issue.

The pushers on the right are for the chrono. The second time zone pushers are on the left for both the 5164 and 5990.

I wouldn’t get a watch priced so high just to get a 5711, but you can always get it, wait for the price increase and sell it once you get the 5711. Though I would ask for 5-7% off...

It feels a lot heavier (at least to me) and wears more like a 16600 sea dweller imo.
Here are some pics I took that might help:
The side by side in the first pic is a d500 and last pic is with a 5711 which is roughly the same case size as 5712

Looks great on the wrist, but pretty thick there for sure.

5990 is a thick piece indeed, but it is a little better when worn on the wrist.

The 5990 and 5980 don't speak to me as strongly as the 5712 precisely because of its thickness/size. To me, a Nautilus should be thin and svelte, right in that medium between dressy and sporty. Whereas on the Aquanaut, the added thickness on the 5164 compared to the 5167 is actually a plus for me, perfect for a sports watch.

Thanks for the clarification, lol. I did not end up buying it but did help them sell it to a colleague of mine; whether or not that will help my position is to be seen.

I've had my 5990 for several months and have to say that it is easily one of my favorites. I would take it over 5711 in a flash. The case thickness and rich dial are excellent. I'd be irritated that this should help you move up the list but at the same time, 5990 is quite a unicorn. If it's available and in your price range I doubt you will regret it. Plus, they are trading well above retail.

I own both and only once accidently hit the pushers. I prefer the 5164 for traveling. More all around watch and a little less noticeable and one of the most comfortable watches i have ever owned

5990 wears considerably heavier than the 5712A. The bracelet of the 5990 is thicker than the 5712A as well.
