Tudor 7909 Oyster Prince

hey guys,

I'm about to pull the trigger on this Oyster Prince 7909. As I'm a newbie regarding vintage Tudors I'd love to have your opinion on this one. Watch is from a trusted seller on Chrono24 so I can use trusted checkout, I think that would at least give me some protection... or so I hope. He's currently on vacation so these are the best photos I could grab at the moment. That said I don't see any obvious red flags... at least I can see that the movement, the hands and the case seems to be genuine. I'm asking him to send some better photos showing the bracelet clasp and the dial.

Any input you might have gentlemen?

Hi!
I cannot determine if it is genuine or not, but I can give you my thoughts on the watch.
The dial looks a bit boring with scratches and uneven patina. The case looks a bit too polished for my taste. That being said, we might not have the same taste :)

Is it a 20mm or 19mm bracelet? I would say the watch Head Only is worth approximately 1kUSD, and the bracelet depending on sice and stretch can be worth more..

hmm... interesting thoughts thank you. I never thought of that dial as boring. Probably because I'm a sucker for the 3-6-9-12 Arabic dials.

As for the case I think I can accept the worn out look... afterall it's a 60 year old watch.

I'll update with more photos on the bracelet if I ever get the seller to get back to me...

But given the case is a 34 I believe it would be a 19mm bracelet.

The “explorer”-type dial is indeed very nice! I am just picky with the patina and would have liked to see a more creme coloured dial :)

The 34mm Tudors came with both 19 and 20mm band width but I think this ref has 19mm.

But most importantly, I cannot see any obvious fake tells, not any indications that the dial have been fixed or such. I am no wxpert though...

I have had this myself:

Certainly not a great example though... Broken seconds hand, washed dial and quite boring case... Well, I guess there is a reason I do not own it anymore.. ;) 20mm btw

I would love a chapter ring'd dial myself as well... sadly those that have the "Explorer" dial configuration are usually found on the smaller 32mm 7903 reference... which even for my small wrist is a little too small for my taste.

For instance if this were on a 34mm case size I'd have jumped on it...

Well, just received the watch today and it's lovely! Dial is definitely original and not refinished.

Two watches with the same inspiration, separated by 60 years!

Congrats. I think the 34mm is just perfect for vintage beauty if you don’t have big wrist size. I love and enjoy all my 34mm watches very much

This 50s oyster Royal put smile in my face every time I pull it out.

Just changed the gaskets and greased them properly so I can now wear it without worries, like it's meant to be worn. Probably wouldn't go as far as swimming with it but it's good to know that everything inside is well protected.

No longer in my collection, but this was my 7909. Purchased the c&i stretch rivet separately. Had lug holes on one side of the case.

This isn’t really my kind of Rolex, the fitting wouldn’t be so awesome.
