First Panerai... 1088 or 364

This is gonna be my first Panerai and i narrowed it down to these two models. The 1088 or the 364. What you guys think for a first and only Panerai

Quite different watches. I'd say the 364, I like the cleaner look of the dial and its a killer 2500m dive watch. The 1088 is too busy for me, the 24-hour track, the silver sub dial. That said, the 364 looks challenging to dress down if you wished. I would definitely be trying both on on in person to be sure.

It depends. What other watches do you have in the collection? As a one watch only choice, I would go with the 1088. If you have other pieces and are looking for a more sporty/diver option, then the 364 might be a contender. Though the 364 is not my favorite Submersible.

Im missing a panerai in my collection. I have everything from rolex to gshock. Just looking for one panerai to check that box. I was thinking the 1088 would look good with all straps and situations where as the 364 is there ultimate diver and a shock and awe piece

Quite an interesting final duo to choose from. The basic dilemma of choosing between a Luminor and a Submersible is not new, but a comparison between a 364 and 1088 is.

If you have the wrist and a diverse watch collection, the 364 makes sense. But, one of the first Panerai I liked was the 88, so I understand the 1088’s appeal. Plus, the 1088 will wear better and go with a wider range of straps. But, the 364 is “shock and awe”, as you wrote above.

Tough choice. Good luck and hope to see an incoming soon.

Between the two the 364 would be my choice but not a fan of the 1088. I wear my Sub on multiple leather straps and it as much of a strap monster as the rest of my bases. Good luck with the decision.

364... Shock an awe :)

1088 too shiny, and not really one thing or the other.

1088 for me. I find the busy dial attractive.

364 for me. The 1088 has too much going on for me. That said if I was looking for a one and only Panerai in my collection it would be neither of those. I’d want a quintessential Panerai such as 000,111,112 etc
