Breitling E-Warranty

Has anyone purchased a watch lately with an AD that had the new e-warranty system? If you have, what're your thoughts on the new tech?

Breitling's been rolling out a new worldwide e-warranty system, doing away with a paper/plastic warranty card. The COSC certificates have an RFID chip that can be read by a device that the AD's will have in the store. You purchase a watch, the reader activates an electronic card that reflects the purchase date, the length of the warranty, and the Serial/Model #'s.

The machine automatically backs up to Breitling's server, so they have a record of the watch being sold, and at which AD, and the date that it was sold.

No more paper warranties. It'll also help Breitling see which watches are selling, what needs to be re-ordered, and try to reduce the number of pieces on the grey market.

That is the first watch company that has e-warranty. So there will be no "warranty booklet" anymore???

There's still a booklet that explains what is and isn't covered by the warranty. The biggest difference is that this is a system that would eliminate the grey market's ability to get watches with "open" warranties.

There isn't any customer information associated with the warranty, just what was sold, when, and where. But it lets Breitling know what's selling where, and the idea would be that since the retailers won't be able to "hide" watches going out the back door, it'd cut down on the grey market.

Could this affect Breitling's sales? Because e-warranty is making grey sellers harder to sell Breitling watches.

Will the system have records of the old Breitling watches too?
I think only the new ones with e-warranty that will be on the server? It will be nice if I can trace an old Breitling watch with no box/papers.

@ Planet E- Considering that watches sold on the grey market aren't being purchased though a Breitling Authorized Dealer, it probably won't affect "legitimate" Breitling sales though AD's.

@Robisan- I don't believe so. Without a way of registering the watches with the server, and no warranty to track, I don't think there's any real incentive/way to get vintage pieces.

That, and I haven't heard anything about this being something that'll be available to the public.

I just bought two of them last week. It is cool but seems unnecessary. I will post pictures shortly of them. Mine had a booklet but they no longer write in the books at all. It was neat to see it activated and the screens can always be reset, you can crack the screen, run it over, bring it to the dealer and it'll be reset. (As AD told me, I'm not going to test it)

The screen on the warranty card. I was told they can be ran over, beat with a hammer, they turn a yellowish color from pressure, when the AD puts it in the device it will reset. Here's a picture of the warranty card. There is no battery, I have no idea how long they last until they die or need replacement. He said he can replace it if it's cracked, but whatever the screen looks like from the pressure it will be reset to read model, serial, purchase date, dealer purchased.

That looks really cool. Thanks for posting the picture. It is a warranty card with a lcd or led screen. I suppose the batteries will last at least until the expiry date. First of its kind.

it does apply to all unsold breitlings. I purchased a Super Avenger I that was old stock but Brietling came in and replaced all warranty cards w/ these new e-warranty cards. There is no battery. I don't think it's led or lcd.

Breitling is rolling this out worldwide, and has gone to most of the AD's in their network and replaced the old paper warranty booklets with the new digital cards. The system wouldn't work if there were still paper warranties floating around.

It also makes taking inventory really easy, since all that has to be done is passing the reader over the warranty storage and each card is read individually.

I believe that the screen is e-ink, which doesn't need an active power source to display anything, just momentary power to make adjustments (which it gets through the dock).

So how do you READ the DATE field?

I saw a Breitling watch with an e-Warranty card that shows "07-11-2016" as the purchase date. Does that mean July 11th, 2016 or the 7th of November, 2016??

So how do you READ the DATE field?

I got my own answer... by looking at some other warranty cards online I saw it would be correct to read the purchase date "07 11 2016" as July 7th, 2016. :-)

It depends on the location of the Authorized Distributor, 11-07-2016 can also mean July 11,2016 if the AD is in a location where that is customary!

It is cool it is like an electronic card, about the stack of 20 business cards. It says when and where it was bought and I believe keeps track of all services.
