What is the scam?
you send more photos-->they send money by PayPal-->then you send goods.

Where is the scam? No funds received no watch.

eBay allows you to send pictures to members within eBay. If they want you to use an external email address, different than the one they use on eBay then it is most likely a scam. The guy is trying to get you to do the transaction away from the protection of eBay and Paypal most likely. And the guy has 0 feedback, Hmmmmm

They use a stolen paypal acct, or claim they didn't receive the watch. The wording in the message is typical scammer wording. Try listing something on Craigslist, 9 out of 10 responses sound exactly like this..

There is also another variation of the scam where the "buyer" will say he has sent funds, and you will then get a confirmation email from PayPal showing the deposit. However, the link/site in that email is not legit, and goes to a spoofed PayPal site.
The scam works on the premise that you will send the watch out before realizing that you don't actually have the money in your real PP account.

They can go in there and pull it right out... always best to avoid a potential scam

Thanks so much for the feedback. This is a new scam for me.

To add, I had another offer with similar wording from another person with 0 feedback and an "outlook.com" email. The other person also had an 828 # of which I called a couple times and no response. That person then aggressively texted me....just didn't feel right.

I'm surprised eBay doesn't catch these messages because normally you can't message emails or phone #'s via eBay.

Definitely a scam.

Next time change your listing to not accept bids from zero feedback bidders.

Google is your friend. The phone number comes up many times and usually with ebay scams.

The email address with the same name as the ebay account is another red flag.

I always do this also and then once at my bank move from checking to savings and leave nothing in checking in case they can initiate a pull back from my bank.

However, last sale I made a few weeks ago they put a hold on the money - apparently they do this now more often with higher priced sales and won't let you transfer to your bank (hold is for 30 days) but they release within a few days of delivery (mine was release 3 days after it showed delivered) or if the buyer leaves good feedback, so watch out for that.

Unfortunately, you can move your money anywhere after receiving it from paypal but if there is a problem paypal will get their money back. Best to deal with paypal, from only people with established feedback. As stated above, people with zero feedback or low feedback need to contact you before bidding.

Yes this was a first for me as well.
Sold my LW and funds were Paypal'd immediately. FedEx shipped next day and buyer was happy.
My Paypal still shows pending balance after payment received. I had to call PayPal twice to figure out that you have to show the tracking number delivery in order to release funds from 30 down to 3 days. Ridiculous.

Is there any other way to accept funds? I now understand watch dealers wanting wire transfers for immediate funding.

I think you just answered your own question.

Seriously, as a seller, wires are the way to go. Obviously that is not ideal as a buyer, especially when dealing with a seller with little/no references.

However, as a seller, the "hold" on funds is not the only negative with PayPal. A buyer can claim anything they want, and PP tends to side with buyers.
A buyer can initiate a return through Paypal, complete with tracking number, and send you back a fake instead of the one you sent.

The scam is, when you send them an email, they respond back to that email with a fake phishing email clamining to have sent the funds via paypal. It looks pretty legit too, i had it sent to me once. Except i always verify on the authentic paypal website, and i realized there really was no payment, the email was a phony. So i sent the email to paypals spoofing email address and had the guys ebay account deleted :)

For 100% confidence, sell to a Trusted Seller here for a few hundred bucks less and don't worry about a scam.

Personally, I'd never sell a watch on ebay. As for the forum, I've had a great experience, but as always, you need to be careful as a buyer or a seller.
