Incoming. First vintage piece.

Been toying with going vintage for ages and finally pulled the trigger. I sold my Rolex 39mm Explorer and bought this gorgeous thing. 1979 76100. With service papers from Rolex in 2013.

Looks crisp. Love it. Any comments from anyone?

Its really interesting. So the serial when you search online says 1979. However this model wasnt produced until 1984. It was serviced in 2013 by rolex. I contacted London and they kindly looked it up and confirmed the service and said the only bits replaced were a balance weight in the movement and the bracelet. I realised the bracelet was a newer version and happy as the folded links are not great to wear and adjust and was part of the reasons to purchase this one.

So is it just an anomaly or how come it appears to be made before the introduction date of the model? Are the serials a reliable way to date a watch?

Lovely. Really dig it

Looks like hands have been replaced. 76100 should be the lollipop rather than Mercedes hands

Likely the dial as well just as part of routine service

I believe the 76100 was a transitional model produced first in 1979 as an alternative to the snowflake version ...initially it came with the lollipop hand, later on I believe it was offered with the mercedes hand as a cross-over once the 79090 was in production. therefore your watch can be a 1979 model but as stated above has the later mercedes hands and possibly a service dial....in my opinion the dial if original would of taken on more of an eggshell colour on the indices by now.

Spoken to Rolex London and they looked up the service in 2013. To my surprise they said the only thing that was replaced was a small balance weight in the movement and the bracelet. All else is original. Nice to know and I was surprised how kind they were over the phone.
