Off the Beaten Path - An Independent watch Incoming - Gronefeld Remontaire 1941
I don't think many here knows or appreciate independent brands, but just for a moment, maybe we can just forget about Rolex SS Sports / Royal Oak / Nautilus resale value talk and what's the latest market trend, shortage or how piss off we are with our ADs and just goes back to what got us interested in watches in the first place, as a really beautiful piece mechanical art that also tells time. Share we?
Proud to share my latest acquisition, the Gronefeld Remontaire 1941. The company Gronefeld is from Netherlands, they are not Swiss and the watchmakers and owners are two brothers that shares a passion for horology and formerly worked in Audemars Piguet Reno & Papi. They are highly regarded watchmakers and the watches are all crafted by hand. Gronefeld along with Romain Gauthier and Akrivia are the trinity of my most admired current independent brands. As for the watch itself, it's a salmon dial time only watch in a white gold case, with a constant force mechanism that Gronefeld called the 8-second remontaire. Basically, what it does is to supply a constant force to watch's escapement, thus improving accuracy.Everything about this watch screams quality. The finishing of the movement frankly put even some Lange to shame. Sharing some pictures. A wrist shot. The hands are sharply polished blue steel. And finally, the highlight. The movement. It's actually in black-polished stainless steel. And yes, I have seen it under a 10X loupe. It's simply glorious. All 258 parts. Here's my attempt to try to capture it..

I have to tell you Ben. The movement is the coolest thing...now that’s how you finish a movement... something whimsical about it

Stunning piece, Ben, love the movement pic! By the way do you still have the Chopard? Been on my mind recently, what are your thoughts on it now?

Congratulations. That's a really nice and well-crafted watch. The movement is particularly interesting and gorgeous. No doubt that will be a favorite for years to come.

Congrats!
How was the ordering process? Was it typical “relationship” or waitlist bullshit? |

What an amazing watch. I was just having a conversation with a watch friend today about the incredible quality coming out of some of the independent and this is such a testament to that. That movement is amazing. Congrats.

No issue at all to order. First come first serve. No BS from AD. Only that I was initially told it took around 6 months but end up 10 months, but all is good.
