Had a similar problem with a watch shipped from a store by FedEx after return for service. I received someones denture mold(!)... The store found it hilarious... After investigation FedEx determined a customs officer had been switching package contents, presumably making off with anything of value. Unfortunately FedEx denied the claim and the store had to claim on their own business insurance.

Glad this worked out for you. I had a bad experience shipping a 1005 from US to London. Luckily most of the value was covered by ebay insurance but it doesn't make up for the lost time and frustration.
