I think this is one of the most beautiful Pateks. Will it be collectible? Will it ever have the cult following of the 5070p? Who knows. I don’t care. I bought this to wear, and it will be my keeper. It will be passed down to my little big man.

On pure aesthetics, the 5170p wins for me. For collectibility, the 5070p wins (at least for now).

And for less than half the price if bought right, the 5170p seems like a no brainer!

Yeah for me strictly just looking at the watch, I also think 5170 is better looking.

I may yet add the 5170p as I also think it is a fabulous looking piece. Just being patient to wait for the right price. 82k new here in Asia and similar tax free in Switzerland.

Who are we kidding! As we have discussed before privately they are all beautiful and we are nitpicking here as passionate collectors... since no thread is complete without pictures, here is mine for my daughters (if they can pull off 42! Lol).

I love all versions of the 5070, as well as the 5170p, though all iterations have their pros and cons. Something to consider...my 5070g and 5170p in total cost about the same as a 5070p. Maybe justified, but worth noting

If it doesn’t fit her, you can pass it to me!

Beautiful, my friend! If it weren’t for the price, I’d love to have it paired with the 5170p. What a duo that would make.

Russell, Are these not available in the UK currently or did you switch to a 5370P? I would think Rhone could get you one in less than a month’s time The 5170P is readily available at many US ADs.

Can you give me a sense of pricing in the US please. I believe retail is above 90k but presumably if there are a few around there may be some flex?

5070, the watch: Stepped case, charming dial, a lot of character, four metals/four dials and no direct predecessor (look back at the patek manual wind two register Chronos) or successor that is truly comparable. 5070 stands alone. For my subjective taste, 5170 has no character with bland case and patek trying to find the right recipe making many dial and case combinations.

5070, the market: produced in far lower quantities, production controlled by availability of Lemania base movement, long waiting lists and limited availability for the P in particular, today showing higher prices and deeper bench of bidders at auction thanks to high demand. For the 5170 on the other hand I believe they have made many more units with a too high msrp to pay the cost of in house vertical integration of all components... in fact if you see market performance for all in house manual wind Chronos, it is quite bad.

Be well.

Mike you are right, availability is not the issue - I love the piece but there are unfortunately limits and another has my eye.

Well said Steve. When I was looking at Patek chronos to buy.....I did look at the 5070g. But when compared with the 5170p....I thought it was a no brainer aesthetically due to the killer blue sunburst (that might be the best sunburst dial I've ever laid my eyes on) and won out by a mile due to how it wears on my small wrist. I also never got over the how busy the dial of the 5070 is as well as the cut off numerals (sorry, that looks quirky to me....just a personal preference...some might call it character). I won't deny the 5070 is a great watch...but it's clear to me 5170 is a step forward in my eyes. I'm all about vintage/older models when it makes sense.

Awwww yeah T. I was wondering when these pics would suface. It looks great on you! The 5170 wears so well that it looks good on most women wrists also IMO. Rocking it!

I never thought I'd say this but the 5170p is every bit as aesthetically nice as the 5070. More even. It's just beautifully proportioned.

Comparative bargain compared to the older watch (which is also spectacular!).

Well said! Don't get me wrong, 5070P is an impressive watch but I will choose the 5170P over the 5070P, resale potential or not.

very interesting thread.. .setting aside collectability, i personally just am not interested at all in the aesthetics of the 5070. it is so big as to be unwearable for me. now. . breguet #s on a patek . . that gets me every time

for me this (white gold or rose gold version) and the 5196P are the 2 best modern pateks but man they get no love from collectors

Bruno knows from my many messages how much back and forth I was. So many people would have opt for P or G etc and taste is entirely subjective. At these levels one should always get the exact watch they want and not sacrifice as if you do you will regret it! I also had 3970P and it is a great watch as well and had it had black dial I might have kept so I could have had all 3! Maybe some day who knows...Cheers,
Those are incredible pieces and a grail for me. I dream about a 5970 in the white metal with a black dial. To me that is pure elegance and perfection and the most beautiful watch ever made. Congratulations on your awesome collection.

today i agreed to my AD's offer of the 5170P. what won over finally was that my wife said she would wear it too. i shall pick up the watch in early october, when i am back in town.
in fact, i am still not totally convinced about the piece but i want one upper level watch on a leather strap. at this point i think i shall cancel my order of the 5320G and focus on nautilus' again.
5980/1R in january the latest:::))))

i wouldn't. While i really, really like the 5170p, i would much rather have the 5320G. I see the 5170P at almost every AD now and i have yet to see a 5320 sitting so its going to be one you will never see on anyone else probably.

I know Karl has one, but does anyone still on the forum have one? I cant think of any and people here have everything
