Great watches but I feel the packaging of the AC lacks a little finesse. If they updated the movement to be slimmer and use a micro rotor I’d definitely look at another PP AC.

My 5146 is my favorite watch by far. I find it perfect.

I agree with Ben, I continue to love my 5205R and wear it on more formal occasions.

I wear my 5205r every day to work. I'm not saving it for someone else.

That said, I also can't ignore that vintage 3940s aren't that much more expensive, and that the perpetual calendar is the real deal, granddaddy complication.
I agree with this...especially the 3940 being undervalued

IMO the ACs took the hardest hit in the paradigm shift to sport watches. The thick case does hurt them some too I think. But ACs represent good value today as you can get them for a reasonable amount more than date model Calatravas on the secondary market.

AC is a great deal for its price range and dial layout between Calatrava and PC.

I love my 5146G. Perfect size for me. I bought new from an AD and passed on other offerings including a much cheaper 5712 at that time. Now my 5146G has tanked in value retention and the 5712 far surpassed it in value appreciation and desirability. Felt like a complete novice having done this. Little did I know at the time. That’s what happens when you purchase with your heart and not with your head. Anyway, still appreciate it for what it is.

AC is the value-oriented version of a perpetual. Not everyone desires/afford the added compliction(s). AC was nice on the Patek 5035rg for about $13,500 when new. Wore it 24/7/365 for about three or four years and she worked well. Was (mainly) a code monkey back then so life was fairly inactive physically. Plus if you're into old-school side-case pusher pins it's kinda fun to set.

AC has a place in horology.

I for one love Patek AC's.... my two favourite ones are the 5146 and the 5205! They may not be what collector want but they sure are beautiful!

The only AC I own now is 5235G. Without the AC function I think it might to too plain since it is not a small watch to begin with. 5235 is special. It has incorporated all the latest pp’s technology and running at an unique hertz, I think of it less of an AC watch more like an “experimental” piece by pp.

Price are quite soft but compare to similarly priced (MSRP) 5960/1A, 5235G are much stronger.

Supply n demand. Personally I think there are just too many AC at the moment.

The 5235G is indeed a special watch incorporating all the features of the previous AR pieces and a brand new movement. It is really a watch for the WIS

This is really a watch for WIS. It's for people with several PPs.
I WIS friend once asked me, how can a 5711 be so much more expensive than an annual calendar regulator which is more interesting?

It is really demand/ supply. But if you're a WIS and real watch lover, 5235 is really something compared to 5167/ 5711 imho.

Nothing wrong with PP AC.

It’s demand and supply. As rightly pointed out by some, just too many AC models out in the woods compared to the sports model.

At the same time, an AC, for some, is a stopgap to a PC. If the opportunity arises to buy a PC, most probably the AC among the many complication watch collection will be the first to go. Too similar to the PC.

Lastly, case design of AC is thicker than PC.

Interestingly i use both AC and Chrono everyday at work. I am a neurologist and i have to time a lot of my treatments. I prefer to look at my watch rather than my phone. With the AC i find it being as useful as the chrono. I can never remember the day nor the date at any given time. i have a 5960/1A.

You can pay 3.5K USD for a deployant :( I'm strongly considering that.

I own a 5960/01G and it doesn't come with a deployant either. The 5205G-013 will be my first and only AC I'll be acquiring from Patek. The white gold and blue face is a must for me. That Patek "trademark".

I’ve just bought the 5205g-013, it’s my first AC and the combination of white gold and blue dial which won me over. Being somewhat middle age(38), the blue dial and larger/thicker case make it a little youthful and sporty.

I have heard the ACs referred to as the barnacles of horology.

I love the look of the 5960/1A, particularly the white dial, and have toyed with getting one. Considering the price in the secondary market and what any other Patek chronograph costs, you basically get the A/C for free. Glad you have a need for both functions.

It makes the watch so much more appealing. Problem is you add the 3.5K USD price tag on top of what you paid... That's almost half a Rolex submariner that you're getting just on your clasp.
