Auf Wiedersehen to my IWC Le Petit Prince Pilot Chronograph (pic heavy)

This was my first good watch, so will always hold a special place for me.

However after picking up my AP 15710 one year ago it has probably only seen a few days of wrist time. (Rotating more would make sense, but I just enjoy wearing my AP too much that even a year in, I can’t bring myself not to.)

Nothing this beautiful should languish out of sight and we have already shared many memorable moments together.

So I have decided to pass it to my brother (my personal hero) to wear and enjoy.

The blue dial is really quite stunning, and the sunburst effect is something to behold. The AR on the crystal is so good at certain angles it appears as if the dial has no covering at all. The long, perfectly polished hands, hold just the right amount of luminescent paint and make precise time telling a pleasure day or night.

The grooved sub dials, day and triple date displays, add a wonderful depth and complexity to the dial. Alongside the bitingly toothed IWC Probus Scafusia crown which makes winding & setting operations a breeze.

Being the Petit Prince version, in addition to the majestic blue dial, there is also a wonderful case-back engraving of the boy prince and the fox from the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry book. For those who aren’t familiar, the fox bestows much of life’s wisdoms to the Prince throughout the course of the story.

Taking the watch out again today reminded me of all the reasons I was drawn to it in the first place.

Sad to see it go, but also pleased that the LPP will be able to enjoy a lot more wrist time than if I kept it.

Given the proximity of Schaffhausen to Germany, and that it’s an au-revoir, not a goodbye. Auf Wiedersehen my Petit friend; may you enjoy a new lease of life !
