I think at this point, people see what they want to see when comparing pictures.

The clasp difference seems substantial. Congrats to your father in law!

The new Submariner shouldn't be that hard to obtain. Much like the 114060.

The date version and Kermit will be tricky.

Congrats, and I think that the clasp and bracelet look kind of huge too.

Once you see how big the bracelet and clasp are on the new version, you can’t unsee it.

11 series: bulkier looking head, 20mm bracelet with more pronounced tapper

12 series: proportions similar to classic 5 digit, but everything bigger.

While the new looks great in pictures and will look great on many wrists, having a smaller wrist I'm happy with my 116610LN. Just more comfortable with the 3mm tapper.

I had a Speedy Pro on 1498 bracelet and preferred it to the modern bracelet as the tapper was more pronounced and hugged the wrist and allowed (me) for better movement.

Congrats to you! Since the bracelet and clasp are 1mm wider i wonder if they used the same center links and just modified the outer links. I'll keep my 114060 but no doubt the new one is a winner. Your father in laws a lucky man to have the new Sub and You. hahaa. Enjoy!..

Thanks for the photos. Makes it easy to see the differences between the old and the new one.

Right, just to clarify things, has the distance between the outside of the lugs been decreased to make then thinner, or has the gap between the lugs where the bracelet joins (20mm?), been increased thus making the lugs thinner?

They are nice watches. Not nice enough for me to want to buy though. I still prefer the 5 digit size cases.

Does this mean that I am "full of it"?

New model reminds of the SD43 proportions where the bracelet looks like an extension to the cases's lugs. Perfect design. Love it.

Both. More tapered case and wider endlinks

No, the bottom of the lugs are now wider than the previous model by .2mm iirc and lugs were taken in from the inside by .5mm on each side (1mm total). The lugs are therefore .3mm thinner

Awesome pickup but i never gelled with my sd43 because of the Wide bracelet....it always felt like a homage rather than the real deal.....hope i dont feel the same about my new sub when it arrives

There is no way the new lugs are only 0.3mm thinner

That difference would hardly be visible to the naked eye. The new lugs are quite visibly thinner.

I’m going to pick up a black date for my dad and green bezel for me. But for me the 40 maxi is perfect.

Congrats!

The OP and father-in-law seem quite content with their new Sub so some of these other negative comments are unnecessary
