Thoughts on the 5711 vs the 5712
It's been only a few days, but here are some initial thoughts on my new 5711/1a versus the 5712/1a, which I used to own.
First, IMHO, it is a WIN either way. Wrist presence: Both have great wrist presence despite their thin case. Dial: I think the 5711 feels "more grand" because there is more uninterrupted space on the magical blue dial. I think the 5712/1a dial is more interesting with the complications and the asymmetry (which I know some do not like, but I certainly did and still do). I also like the hints of red on the 5712/1a dial. WR: With the higher WR on the 5711, I feel a little more secure, but this largely is irrelevant since I probably won't use this in a pool/ocean anyway - but it's nice to know I can if needed. The backside: I love the 240 movement and the micro rotor. From an aesthetic standpoint, I think the 5712 wins here, but the 324 is no slouch and is also easy on the eyes. And, I feel good with the 324 on this since I have a 240 movement in another watch, so a little diversity is a nice thing. Overall: As mentioned above, I don't think you can go wrong with either. You will pay a premium for the complications of the 5712, so with this in mind, and having had the chance to buy either the other day, I chose the 3-handler because: a) it's classic, simple, and beautiful; b) it's cheaper; and c) I have other PPs with complications. Admission: Earlier this year, I flipped my 5712/1a when I bought another watch. In hindsight, I wish I hadn't done that. I lost some $ on the sale. In hindsight, if I sat on my hands, I could have had my steel Nautilus and saved in transaction costs. However, I was able to get a good price on the 5711, and I really love the simplicity of the 5711, so it's still a win for the home team! Thanks for reading. Gone but not forgotten:

Well your camera certainly prefers the 5711, pulled focus nicely on that . One thing I do wish my 5711 had is the micro-rotor.

There is only one option – the 5711.
If you want a moonphase on your Nautilus, get a pre-owned 5726 instead. |

From my experience with the people around me, those that have the 5711 regret not getting the 5712, and those that have the 5712 envy the cleanness and purity of the 5711 dial. The grass is always greener on the other side

Both beautiful watches. I do love the 240 micro rotor movement. That said, I love the amount of blue on the dial of the 5711. Always will be a tough choice for me.

Both have the sqme feel, thin and sleek. Goes very well with more formal attire due to its thin profile. For me the 5711 with is simple dial wins hands down. 5712 is bit crowded for my taste.
