Starting to think I bought a counterfeit DD...

...or a least one with non-original parts. The letter font on the Day wheel looks fuzzy, like it was printed on an inkjet printer. There is a line through the R in Saturday. In the Friday pic, the top of the Y appears truncated.

Before purchase, I specifically asked if the dial was original and was told, in writing, that it’s genuine Rolex. Of course, they also told me the Day display is centered and it is not. I called their watch manager regarding the non-centering. She told me winding it more should fix it (!).

The Seller is an established business located in Texas with a long history of selling used watches and seems to have a good reputation.

I can return it within 30 days but I really like it. It also has a 1 year warranty. What should I do, return it for refund...return it to them for service...??

Needless to say, I’m sick about this. For years, this was my dream watch, now it’s slowly morphing into a nightmare.

You really like it...but you think it's a counterfeit watch? That doesn't add up, my friend.

My take, it's your dream watch. Don't half-ass it, man. Get your dream watch.

If you have legitimate bad feelings about the watch, go ahead and return it and find another.

But most important, try not to agonize over it or let it eat you up. But do I practice what I preach? Not always, so I feel your pain for sure.

Unfortunately I don’t know enough about counterfeit watches or parts to advise you. You could always take it to the RSC to authenticate it to put your mind at ease.
If that’s not an option then just return to the seller and source another one.
Best of luck in whatever option you choose.

The watch has issues - some you noticed.

2 routes open to you:
1. Return for refund
2. Send/Take to RSC

Your pic and narrative say to me that #1 is your better route.

I don't know anything about authenticity and I am sure have never responded to something like this. I don't even go to this section, but I saw it being moved from the General Rolex section, so noticed it.

With that said, an uncentered day (which perhaps just needs some small alignment fix) along with the "Friday" looking like an old faded sweatshirt lettering and the "Saturday" looking the same, is not something that IMO would ever come out of Rolex, especially since this watch isn't 70 years old. I can hardly believe a DD would be *that* hard to source (I'm not sure which version this is, etc.), but having an inauthentic day wheel (which is easily spotted) makes me wonder what is inauthentic under the hood, which is not so easily spotted.

If it were me, I'd return this ASAP and get something that doesn't have so many question marks.

BTW here is what a genuine, untouched day wheel should look like.

Can you post more photos of the sides and rear of the watch?

If they won’t fix the date wheel problem you should get your money back. Too soon to be paying for any kind of service

Thank you for the picture. That really illustrates mine in not right. I’m going to return it. This makes me doubt everything else about the originality of the watch.

After thinking about, I have no choice but to return it for refund.

Prior to purchase, we exchanged PMs regarding the condition and authenticity. They absolutely lied to me when they said the day was centered. It’s almost certain they lied about the authenticity of the dial. Now, I can’t help but doubt the authenticity of its mechanical components.

I bought this off eBay. My feedback is going to be “Negative” and I will cite they mispresented the condition and, possibly, the authenticity of the watch. They also have a Feedback on their website. This is not going to look good for prospective buyers.

You may want to wait until you actually receive your refund before posting negative feedback.

Being 100% satisfied is important. I say do what you must. That wheel would bug me too.

OK
We have to see back case (lugs) to determine if watch is outright fake or a reworked date wheel.
The Day/date wheel looks wrong to me, but the rest of the dial from what I can see looks OK

So lets see some photos of backside, and full shots of dial. Good clear straight on photos are needed

I’m glad that you have returned it for refund.
The day wheel and font would’ve annoyed the hell out of me.

I will post some pics in the morning.

My wife pointed out the printing on the face of the dial doesn’t look right either.

I appreciate everyone’s feedback.

You're doing the right thing returning the watch. I hope things go smoothly with you getting a refund.

You wrote that the vintage Day-Date was your dream watch. It's out there somewhere waiting for you. This watch you bought is not the watch you're looking for.

Please buy only from reputable dealers or reputable TRF members.

Auction sites are loaded with fakes, and some fakes are VERY good.

Dial and case look good (original and genuine)
Crown seems to me incorrect marking for an 18Kt gold case (single bar) but I know some earlier pieces had that mark instead od two dots.
David (CROWNCOLLECTION) is best to confirm that.

The letter "R" in Rolex does not look right to me. It looks way different from the picture that 77T sent.

He's referring to the lower right flourish of the 'R' which appears more centered on the Op dial. It also looks a little more elongated

OP

You dropped a lot of money for a watch you're not completely satisfied with and you have a 30 day return policy to work with.

Take it back and keep looking. You'll find what you really want.

Personally, I would avoid creating any bad blood by leaving bad reviews.

You might find the perfect watch in that very store. It's best not to burn any bridges.
