The new BLNR 2.0 is a hugh upgrade from the BLNR. There has been a lot of sour grapes with current BLNR push back against the new BLNR jubilee. We saw this initially with the DSSD upgrade. If you are a Rolex history fan, then the jubilee IS the GMT look.

Here’s how to handle these dilemmas. Don’t trade! Buy the Sub, reevaluate in 90 days. If you must sell one, you’ll know which. No risk, no stress.

Cheers.

New BLNR or Sub Date?

I had my SubC date for about 2 years. I’ve always wanted one my whole life. It wasn’t until about 10 years of knowing about the submariner that I discovered the Pepsi GMT.

I purchased my sub and realized I had my grail. It was a fantastic moment. But in 2018 when the 126710 was released, the thought of the sub being my grail went out the window lol (I’m sure I’ll have more grails in the future)

The one thing I wasn’t crazy about was the jubilee

I put my name on the wait list thinking nothing of it, and about a year and a half later I got the call for it.

I knew that one watch had to go, I wasn’t in a situation financially to have both the sub and the GMT. I was so excited about the BLRO that the sub went.

When I initially started wearing the Pepsi, I still wasn’t crazy about the jubilee. I said to myself (did I just make this switch because the BLRO is more sought after?)

I’ve had the BLRO on my wrist every day all day for about a month and a half now and at this point I feel confident in saying that I made the right choice. I’ve since had offers of the same model I sold plus 10k plus cash etc, making that an easy 10k profit for me. But I cannot let this thing go.

The jubilee actually works very well. It’s so comfortable, that I switched to my 216570 polar the other day for about an hour or so, and then switched right back to the BLRO because I got so used to the comfort of the jubilee

It’s your call, but if it’s the jubilee that is holding you back from keeping the watch just know that it’s just something you will get used to, and it seems different right now because you may just be used to the oyster.

I wear this watch in everything from boots and jeans / T-shirt to a full 3 piece suit, and it’s versatile enough to work effortlessly with both

But value aside, I had a Sub ND and loved the glide lock. Just really wanted a date, and now I have that opportunity.

I asked myself if I would be okay with the font of the GMT Bezel 10-20 years from now. I wasn’t too sure - it’s quite modern looking. But the Sub Bezel has barely changed. You could place the modern Sub in a movie set before its time, and only those with keen eyes would be able to differentiate modern from classic. Therefore, it’s classic.

But the BLNR has a new movement with a relatively light and comfortable bracelet. And the PCL does worry me a bit! Jubilee bracelet is really beautiful, but I still picture this more on a Datejust and Day Date.

First world problems!

Seems that you already made up your mind.

The GMT is more comfortable so i prefer it over a Sub. But the Sub is more versatile now due to the brushed oyster bracelet. The ideal would be the new gmt on a brushed oyster bracelet!

Neither. I think they are both dull. In your shoes I would get the one that I loved the most. For me it would be the GMT because along with the date, it's a complication I actually use. This is why my first Rolex was a 42mm Polar. Not a dull watch at all.

Buy what sings to you. Love it. Enjoy it. Keep it and add to it, if/as/when. I appreciate that sometimes a watch tanks in the eyes of the owner after the honeymoon. Or even during it! This happened to me just the once with an Omega. It doesn't sound like you are in this situation.

It’s an awesome watch, but I have the opportunity to get a new Sub Date + Cash. I’ve recently been feeling that the Sub may be more versatile. The jubilee fits well, but is pretty “blingy”.

Thanks again!
I've had most of the Rolex models including an all stainless Daytona and a yellow gold Day Date. I'm no longer a collector but when I was, I wore my Stainless Sub much more frequently than any of the others. I sold all of them and then lucked into a BNIB Stainless Sub, at list. For me, the Sub has the right weight, size, usefulness and appearance to make it perfect for 24-7 wear.

Ummmm, kinda dumb gansta...

He already has the BLNR at retail (the cheapest it will ever be). Why go through all those gyrations only to come back to the same watch he already has at MSRP?

Plus, the added bonus of being the owner of a very hot piece is very satisfying. I have the new BLNR and if I walk into an AD they immediately think I’m a high roller and treat me like a king. That just does not happen when one wears a Sub — I should know, I own both.

I was in Monaco 2 weeks ago — highest concentration of billionaires in the world (of which I am definitely not). I walked into the Rolex dealer at casino square — tight beside Cafe du Paris.

When the sales associate found out I had the new Batman, I was offered to go upstairs to the VIP level of the store. The store manager, another SA, and their in house jewelry designer joined us.

I was given a water and my girlfriend champagne. They immediately tried to sell me a Cellini Moon phase. They took my girlfriend to the other room and she came back wearing a 5 carat black and white diamond ring designed by the in-house designer. We were told Basketball great Michael Jordan purchased the same ring (but with all black diamonds) at that store for his second wife.

At one of the most posh Rolex ADs in the world the mere knowledge of someone with the new BLNR rolls out the red carpet. This experience would never have been afforded to me if I were wearing my ND Sub.

Most don’t realize the intangible perks one receives when owning a piece like this — talk about Gansta!

Here’s the ring:

I think I’m gonna get sick.

If you wan to be a snobby elitist, do what this guy says. If you want to end up with both watches for a total less than retail, Get the cash + sub and re- buy later.

BLNR is dropping 1k/month right now. So in 6 months when its back to 9k you won’t get access to the super secret Monaco bat cave, because you’ll just have a regular guy watch.

the BLNR jubilee is not dropping 1k a month..... It dropped significantly after 3 months and settled around 15k-16k. it was definitely priced high at 21k, but that was only the first BLNR jubilee that was sold grey market. If the BLNR sells for 9k grey, i would assume all Rolex references will go down as well including BLRO, Daytonas, and Skydwellers.

21 to 15 in 6 months is 1k/month. Transactions are happening sub 15k already and the grey stock is swelling. They won’t carry 2 or three pcs in stock.

This model will be first to msrp.

I doubt this model will get to MSRP in grey any time soon. BLRO is only $1-$1.5k above BLNR and that has been coming down too. As our friend said above, if this comes to MSRP it means everything is coming down. We are not talking about Explorer II here (even that is above MSRP) in gray.

BLRO was at 20-22k when it first came out but has remained steadily at 17-18ish k over the last year.

If you use the GMT function on a regular basis it would obviously make sense. I however never found it all that practical (I usually travel within the 48) and nine times out of 10 I find a submariner on my wrist more than any of my other Rolex watches.

Deals are closing in the grey market at 14.5K already for BLNR on jubilee brand new. Asking price is not market price.

I’m not sure everything will come down and follow immediately, but this one seems to be leading the charge. Post Christmas/pre basil, I do believe this will be sub 10k. I could be certainly wrong.

I also doubt it will get you access to the Monaco VIP lounge by then.

Put it this way, would you bet that watch is worth more or less in 6 months?

I bet both BLNR and BLRO will cost less in the secondary market. IMO Rolex is just making more of these. This photo is from an hour ago at my AD. I have bought SD43 and Sub and my BLNR all in the past two months from ADs without any purchase history so these things are certainly more accessible now.

PS. The blue on Batman looks gorgeous
