Really nice, elegant and timeless piece. The white dial is my favorite.

Anyone has a view on choice between 5146G and say 5205R-010? I was offered 5205R in lieu for the 5235G being discontinued. But my heart says 5146G is the preferred piece, I feel 5146G being less formal and agile for different activities. Also the deployant clasp with the calatrava cross is too hard to resist.
Appreciate thoughts on this. |

I had a 5205 originally, traded it and got a 5146. The 5205 IMO is a beautiful watch and looks best when worn with a suit or jacket. I didn’t feel it was a very versatile watch to wear when I dressed down. I think an AC or Perp C should be a daily wearer , I’ve got the 5146 now and I’m very happy with it. My only suggestion is the grey dial over the cream from the point of legibility.

Congrats Ts. I'm also looking to purchase the 5146 as a memento for my big day coming this Sep. Will be my first PP.
Had a hard time deciding between the 5146 or the A. Lange 1. Now stressing over which metal to get it in, I love both RG and WG. |

I bought my 5146 about 4 years ago and still love it. Bought it on the secondary market and haven't really lost much money out of it. Don't plan to sell it either as it is my grail piece, my complicated piece, and the cornerstone of my holy trinity. It is the epitome of the Patek DNA.
I have while gold with white face and a grey strap. I is about time to replace the strap so thinking of going custom with two straps, one in a shade of brown and one in a shade of grey to mix things up a bit. Congratulations on your purchase_

Gorgeous, congratulations! I also think this is an underrated, classic reference - enough so that I am pulling the trigger on a slate dial 5146g this week. Cannot wait!
How are you enjoying yours? Are you happy with it? I am hoping to change the strap color from brown to grey. Will post a pic once I get it. |

5146G for my first Patek Philippe?
It’s a nice reference, but the deal has to be out of this world. My friend was offered $20,000- 21,000 from multiple dealers for his almost near new, mint 5146G.
That’s around 50% off MSRP. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yup, sounds about right. If you buy at 27-28k and make peace with yourself that you are gonna lose 7k if you depart from it. Then you are good . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I would imagine he could do a little better selling it himself here on TRF?

As promised, a photo of mine that I recently added to the collection.
Just sourced the grey strap from an AD in Miami. Surprisingly, it wasn’t terribly easy to find. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Jorge, you would definitely be the one to ask on this subject. Have you observed the market continuing to soften on these references? Or has it pretty much remained stable?

I haven’t followed closely but I suspect hasn’t changed significantly. But now that the sport watches has soften a little, 5146 might go down slightly, not significantly. But then again the market might go up again once the summer is over. Historically watch market in general softens a little on the summer Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Appreciate your insights. Prices definitely seem to be softening for sports pieces, will be interesting to see if it’s just a summer slowdown... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'm glad to have found this post. I'm considering a 5146 as my first pp as well and have been doing a lot of research. Initially, I loved the contrast color in a 5146j 010 and later found a 5146g with the slate dial to be more versatile for both dressy and casual. Recently I started to find a 5146g with a cream or white dial very attractive. I imagine the latter model with the cream dial would look great with different colors of straps.

I have it’s predecessor the 5035J which I love. Also probably the best deal in Patek around at only $19k right now.

Of course not , everyone has different habits and different financials, but no matter what I think is smart to be educated with this kind of information before hand. Make it a factor on your decision when buying but never the only factor , otherwise the hobby becomes a transaction. Cheers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I agree regarding the versatility of the slate dial. It is my favorite dial, but I also find the cream very classy and slightly dressier. IMO you can’t go wrong with either, and hope to see your incoming soon! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I was torn on the dial and between the 5146 and 5396, once on the wrist the choice was much easier

Congrats on your 1st PP! It’s gotten more expensive buying watches in BKK due to increase in THB.

@Stingerstingray: I've ordered a few straps from Camille Fournet in Paris--excellent quality and really cool customization's you can make:

Congrats on joining the “Patek Family “. My brother has same watch and I bought the 5146j. I think they are a lot of “bang for your bucks” compared to some other PP’s.
Enjoy wearing it. |

Love to hear anyone’s view on dial legibility. I like the slate because it seems a bit more sporty but is it harder to read than the white or cream? Seems so in pictures.
I recently sold a world timer for this reason. Getting old I suppose... |

In bright light it's harder to read, i.e. it'll take a few more seconds. In lower light the contrast oddly becomes very good.
