Well that’s like your opinion man. Good to have one. I do as well. Enjoy

There were some naysayers when the watch was first announced on the forums. But the overwhelming opinion now seems to be this is a very special well thought out piece with a useful complication. Additionally the watch has a new movement to include a stop seconds function and manual winding so the owner does not need a winding box. Prior Patek automatics were only to wound about 8 winds as everything was engaged and damage could occur. Now there is a clutch to free the rotor while winding.

I’ve never understood the instruction to be that you can ONLY wind it 8 turns (manual says 10), i‘ve understood it that you can start the watch on this amount of turns (10) but equally you can then fully wind if you wish. I always 3/4 wind after a watch stops - I will ask.
I know the new movement has no safe zones and the time can be adjusted forward and backwards but then so can the 324 on which it is based.

"The automatic winding mechanism has been overhauled, starting from a more secure nut holding the rotor instead of a simple screw; a spiral spring on the click wheel for smooth and adjustment-free ratcheting; the addition of an uncoupling reduction wheel with integrated clutch for the ability to manually wind the barrel; and a similar uncoupling wheel with a unidirectional clutch.
There is a patent pending for the uncoupling clutches as well as patents for a few features in the weekly calendar mechanism."

This is from the Quill and Pad review of the 5212A. Check it out but older automatic movements should not be regularly fully wound unless they are designed for both manual winding and automatic winding. Best to invest in a winding box if not regularly worn. When I bought an automatic Grand Seiko it specifically said the watch was designed to both be manually wound and automatically with no harm to the movement.

I will check it out.

Edit. Having read Quill&Pad review and Pateks own instructions I’m still of the opinion that you can manually wind 324, 240 etc movements. Patek seem to be saying 10 complete clockwise turns of the crown winds the watch - nothing in the instruction manual about not winding as far as I can see.

Well, it happened, the first weekly is on chrono24. I phoned them and it was sold within a couple of hours. They are getting another one in one month, so that will be coming up for sale.

If you love the watch, and you have 80.000 euro, give them a call! I had to politely decline, way out of my league

Arrived

Picked up my 5212A yesterday. AD said it was the only one that they are having this year and he had 8 customers wanting one!
Been looking for a weekly calendar for over 10 years (I’m in the financial industry). Came close to buying a Glashutte a few years back. Now so glad I didn’t and thought my prayers had been answered when I saw the press release of the 5212A
PS The white background in the date window is far more subtle in real life (the flash photography must highlight it).

Wonderful news!

Of course without pictures it didn't happen.

Sorry I’m a Luddite!
I’ll have one of my kids upload a pic later today.
I’m more into true craftsmanship (i.e. Patek’s) rather than technology!

You will need 10 plus posts to upload pictures and I would recommend Tapatalk app for uploading.

Only just joined. Didn’t release about 10 posts rule.
When I’ve thought of 7 more interesting things to post I’ll have the kids post a pic.
Wound my AD up yesterday, just spent 2 hours chatting, after concluding business and last going off I expressed my desire for a 5231J.
Off one waiting list, but hopefully will be put on another.

I shouldn’t worry about being interesting, we get lots of Nautilus and Aquanaut posts.
