Trade my 5296G Calatrava for an A. Lange & Sohne Saxonia.... thoughts? Pics...

I have the opportunity to do a one for one even trade of my one year old 5296G Calatrava for an A. Lange and Sohne Saxonia in mint condition and rose gold with box and papers and recent service. I’m torn on whether I should do this or not and wanted to get the thoughts of my trusted friends on TRF. What do you guys think?

Here is my 5296G:

And here is the actual ALS Saxonia I would be trading for:

If you ever need/want to move the Lange down the road, think you would lose at least another $5k, if not more. Not as many buyers of used Lange out there. Just something to consider if you’re not sure you will keep the Lange long-term.

Both are superb watches and really hard to answer it for you. What would you wanting from the trade?

Are you looking to get a bit a variety after a while or would RG work better for you or is that you find ALS intriguing? Value wise I think 5296G keeps it better

Personally I love Lange Saxonia and have it on my wishlist, but I would probably stay with the 5296G Patek if I had it.

I'd keep the Patek. This is not by any means a shot at the Saxonia as ALS makes one of the best timepieces in the world but in this comparison the nod goes to Patek.

I prefer the more unique, more complex Langes. For a 'clean' dress watch, I'd stick with the Patek.

Keep the 5296; I’m not a fan of that Lange. Maybe for a Lange 1.

Purely from an aesthetic perspective I would not trade the 5296G into the Saxonia and I am sure you have worked out the economics. I'd rather sell the AC if you want to reallocate some cash towards a Lange. While I get the historical relevance of that AC it comes across kinda old-style and doesn't dress down well w its Roman numbers. The 5296G is more versatile and IIRC you got it new from the AD as well. I'd certainly give it some more time...

I’d keep the Patek, maybe Datograph will take it away

I guess what attracts me to the Saxonia is that it’s Rose Gold and I already have two white gold dress Pateks, although both are very different, and have been looking to add a rose gold Patek into the collection perhaps even trading the 5296G for a 5196R. I also like that I would be adding a Lange to my sizable collection to have a bit more variety. I have my 5296G on today and itnjust wears so perfectly and is pure class. Im going to keep it. Thanks for the input fellas

You don't need to keep hearing, but if it were me I'd keep the 5296

Spontaneously I'd say keep the Patek, but then again, you have several others. As much as I like RG, don't you have enough RG watches?

I liked the ALS until you turned it over- the engine is soooo disappointing! Not only will you lose money in future resale, you would have to keep it face up at all times. Just a glimpse would make me cry :-( the Patek is such a work of art ! Please don’t do it. Well you asked for opinions . Ha ! Best regards whatever you do.

I think you should not sell the patek, but you must buy a A.Lange. Its beautiful watch, their quality is so great.

If you like the lange go for it. The finishing is a step above and I think with time people are starting to really understand Lange..

My 2cts would be the same as Micro Wrist, if you like the Lange, buy it too but do not sell the Patek.
For me you have the best dress watch ever and even I am thinking about buying that one. The only thing holding me back is the possibility of buying a 5212 at some date and needing to save money for that.

Don't do it

Lange is basically a movement company. I do not care for their cases or many of their dials so I would pass personally. They make 5-6000 watches and most of them tank in value. Just my 2cents

Guys, I decided I’m not doing this trade, but I did find a Lange that I fell in love with and is now next on my “to buy” list....

That is just a washed out crummy picture. Lange movements are a sight to behold and many people hold are finished better than PP. All Lange movements are finished to the same high standard. Not the case with PP which reserves its highest finishing for its most expensive pieces. Lange suffers from resale, no doubt about that, but its not from lack of quality or finish.
