Oyster Perpertual 39 Black or White help

Hey Guys

It wouldnt let me add a poll before so I restarted it!
So decided I LOVE the simplicity of this piece and havent yet seen them in person but wanted to get a feel for what people thought was the better look the black or white?

Please post your wrist pics and especially interested in lower/higher light pics to see the different shades!

Also can any comment on scratches to the bezel/lug as being polished i'm a little concerned it will be a scratch magnet and can only be polished in a RSC service!

Vote now!

I'm in the exact same boat, I love the way the white looks in a lot of photos, saw it in person and it appeared more silver at least under the lights in the AD. I have not seen the black but I am not sure about the sunburst dial.

This thread needs a photo. As has been stated before- the white is amazing. The black is nice too...but you probably have another black dial (or will) aka sub, explorer, etc etc

White all the way.
Cleaner look.

Believe the black has somewhat of a sunburst dial instead of matte or gloss.

Amazing. Can you show it in a lower light? I heard the white appears more egg shell?

Go for the white dial for sure. If you are looking for a black dial, I would consider getting the Explorer instead of the OP.

there's a current thread with some nice shots.

for some reason I find it difficult to capture the eggshell using the iphone...probably on a dslr it would be much easier.

Best advice is to just buy what you love and take good care of it. Don't be concerned with what might or might not happen.

Try this one...if you look at the white of the hour markers vs the dial you can see the difference

Excellent thankyou. Question - does it annoy you that it isnt brilliant white in the lower light or compliment?

I have the white. It’s quite difficult to capture the varying shades but I’d describe them as interchanging between pure white, silver and cream. Some photos below which I hope demonstrate this a little.

I didn’t get chance to see the black in person, but with so many other black dialled options in the Rolex lineup, I think white is the way to go here.

As for scratches on the bezel, I’ve not noticed any on mine. I wear the watch daily, and have had in on pretty much non stop since I picked it up at the beginning of August and I definitely don’t baby it.

Good luck & keep us all posted on what you decide!

I’m waiting for my white dial OPND to arrive.....it’s in transit! I got the white dial as I have an explorer & don’t have a watch with a white dial

I have a white OP 36. It often appears silvery, which I love! A famous watch reviewer on YouTube described it as opaline--not at all a flat white.
Because of the case, OPs tend to wear a little large, so if for some reason you want to mitigate that (if you have smallish wrists, say), then you might consider getting the black.
I do agree with a lot of people in this thread, that black is sort of the standard color for a Rolex, so a white OP makes a nice change on that paradigm--it's a bit less expected.
You can't go wrong either way! Please post again when you decide and get your OP 39!

I bought the black dialed OP 39mm after trying both it and the white dialed OP. The black dialed OP looks better on me. The white dialed OP is a beauty but is a bit too silvery for my taste when viewed at a shallow angle.

Both great options but the white dial really spoke to me. Also found the black dial too similar to my 116710LN.

Here is an excellent close up of the white dial taken by another member. You can see that the finish is eggshell.

Randy

Couldn’t agree more. I loved the white and probably recommended it on this forum a ton of times. I finally tried the Black on and it is near perfect. Absolute beauty. I would pick it over the white all day. I’d actually pick up OP39 black over the Explorer 1 as well.

Great pic!

Yes - that's a good shot. It also shows that really close up, the surface has a speckly/very fine grain appearance of what could be some kind of powder coat?

Here's my whitey:

I own a black one, and never regretted choosing it over the white (or the other colour variants for that matter).

But I do note that most people on social media own and showcase the white over black.

I think the white is cleaner. I like the black but the white for me is the stand out piece.

For me, white works well with a watch of this size and is easily legible as well as achingly beautiful. But I can't tell you what you like. Which one do you prefer?

Here's my whitey:
As for the "speckles" it almost looks like it's got metal flake in it too me, which would explain why it looks different in certain lighting. The "grain" would be the eggshell finish.
Nice watch, of course.
