Confirming a 124060 Oyster Steel Half Link will fit on an Explorer 1 224270

Hello all,

BLUF: will the 16.5 124060 half link fit on my 224270 bracelet to help achieve my perfect fit and is there any reason I should not be doing this?

I have seen this discussed on here after some searching but I have never seen it confirmed. I would like to confirm before ordering the link from my AD.

I am currently trying to find the perfect fit for my new 224270. After a few adjustments and weeks of wear I seem to be awkwardly in-between 2 links removed on loosest micro pin (roughly 103mm) and on link removed on the tightest micro pin (107mm). It would seem my Goldilocks fit is somewhere in the 104-106 range. I would like to get a better fit without having to wear the easy link open 24/7. I have seen folks say the half link has been their solution. I have found an AD who will source the link for me, but I will have to order the link up front and want to make sure it will fit and there will be no negative implications to the bracelet by doing this.

My questions:
- Has anyone successfully done this? - I believe the subC link is 16.5mm in width
- How much length does the half link add? My understanding is, micro pins = 3mm, easy link = 5mm, half link = 6mm, full link = 10mm, I am looking to confirm these measurements
- What is the part number of this link? is 32-33780 correct?
- Are the bracelets for the 124060 and 224270 the same? they are both 21mm lug width.
- Is there any hard in adding a half link to the 224270 bracelet?

If my math above is correct I plan on removing 2 full links, adjusting to the middle micro pin setting, and adding a half link for a total length of 106mm.

Thank you.

That is good to hear.

C'mon Rolex, give us half links for every model, so we don't have to play these silly games to get a multi-thousand dollar watch to fit right.

Direwolf, this is for your 224270 correct? Do you happen to know the part number, or will asking for a half link from the 124060 bracelet suffice?

I think adding the half link to the 6 o'clock side is exactly what I need! Currently have 4 on the 6 o'clock side and 7 on the 12 o'clock side. I think having 4.5 on the 6 o'clock and 6 on the 12 o'clock would not only get me to the right fit, it may also pull the face back towards the interior of my wrist as well.

Yes for the new 40mm explorer. You can just ask them to order the half link that comes with the sub or sub date 41.

It’s pretty silly isn’t it?

I remember when I bought a 166600 DBlue they didn’t come with a half link.

I asked my AD to order one but they said it wasn’t that simple …. In the end, I believe they ordered the link by saying they had a customer that needed it for a Submariner. I don’t know if they had to provide information to that effect, but I do know it took about 8-10 weeks and I think it was $140.

Ridiculous. But that's the way of things apparently.

Unfortunately Rolex still progresses at a glacial pace in many areas. Lots of tiny micros and budget Chinese brands are producing half links and on-the-fly-adjustable clasps these days, while with Rolex we still make do with full links only, and EasyLink clasps on most models.

Direwolf - perfect, thank you for confirming. I have found not al ADs will order these half links if you dont own the watch the link is sold for. I had to ask 3 different stores before finding one that was willing to sell me the link. Sounds like it will take 2-4 weeks to even get the link itself.

I am thinking running 4.5 links on the 6 o'clock side and 6 on the 12 o'clock side with the micro clasp pin on the middle setting should get me where I need to be. Thank you!

Thanks for confirming that info. I have also the issue of just slightly tight on full bracelet. My AD will get me in a 1/2 and I'll report back once its fitted and confirm also it is 100% fit.

Ninjin - this is great news! No trouble at all getting it in? I just this weekend was able to get the link ordered. Sounds like 2-4 weeks before it arrives. Do you happen to know the part number?

I had no issues at all.

I think this is correct packaging.... I also had a link for a Jubilee previously but this box was the first I found on the top, so should be right.

this is so helpful - thank you for confirming.

More importantly, did the half link get you that perfect fit!?

My micro adjust was maxed out, so by installing the 1/2 link I was able to move the micro adjust back a couple of holes.

At the moment it's still cold here so wrist is slim (and the standard setup would work) but when overseas, I was wearing with the extension out even in the morning, which gave me no more expansion during the day.

So yes, in conclusion, the 1/2 link has solved my issues.
