Had ADT in a house I bought in 2001. The old owners had it installed and signed a 3 year contract. I had no interest in and ignored it for a few weeks. ADT tried to get me to assume the contract saying it went with the property. They were relentless about it. I finally went in the basement and unplugged the system and cut all of the wires going into the panel and took the key pads out and cut the wires. All set!! ADT uses propriety equipment so no one else can mess with it. I went with a local company that uses DSC products which are universal. Never had an issue.

My friend had something like this happen when he moved into a new house. Turns out the neighbor had the house keys and would actually let himself in to "hang out". He finally figured out what was going on when he came home one day and caught the guy in his house.

There are thousands of reviews dating back for at least 10 years talking about the ADT head in the ass reactions. They are super common.

Leads me to believe I won’t get much in the way removing myself from their contract. But I’ll try.

Glad nothing appeared amiss at your home. I would have been super stressed wondering what was really going on. FWIW, I had ADT twice. The first time was so so, no major issues but a lot of little nuisances. The second time was a nightmare right from the git go. After threatening legal action they broke the contract.
I went with a local company where I lived at the time and had stellar service. They had to change some of the equipment out but gave me a discount. Might be an option for you if you can get out of your contract. Enjoy Turks & Caicos !!! |

fun fact ...more people die in vending machine accidents every year than from sharks.

found this:
Statistics from the Consumer Product Safety Commission for 1995 listed two people died as a result of being crushed by falling soda machines in the U.S., as compared to zero shark-related deaths in the same twelve-month period. Moreover, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, there were 37 known vending machine fatalities between 1978 and 1995, for an average of 2.18 deaths per year. Over the decade from 1994 to 2004 there was a total of six recorded shark attack fatalities in the U.S., for an average of 0.6 deaths per year. Ergo, the vending machines are indeed more deadly than sharks by a factor of almost four. then you have this:

I've snorkled in turks. The reefs are great. Do not worry seth. I asked the boat captain if any sharks were in the water and he assured me all had left when the real estate bubble burst back in 2008. Just drink the rum punch eat, the conch and enjoy. The wild dogs on the islands are more dangerous.

As stated above fatal shark attacks are few and far between. Humans don’t really feature on their menu. Most incidents are them taking a nibble before realising you’re not a fish, and during the day time they aren’t really feeding.

The reef sharks that Seth is seeing routinely patrol a stretch of reef and will largely ignore snorkelers. And snorkeling is the best way to get pictures because scuba bubbles tend to make them steer clear of you. A clear case for the smartphone is great for these types of shots. Most resorts sell them for all the current models. |

Wow - must have been quite an experience. I’ve just been fortunate enough for one scuba encounter with a nurse shark which I gather are about as docile as they come. Glad you didn’t end up on the catch of the day menu !

However, if figured on a 'fatalities vs percentage of encounters' basis, I'd wager the survival rate with vending machines is still a little better.

Kind of like fear of flying. The most dangerous part of flying is the trip to the airport. Doesnt mean planes dont crash but it means the fear is focused on the lesser danger.

Enjoy your trip brother, looks like an amazing time!
No advice for you on the alarm as we don’t bother with one. Our best line of defense is having two retired neighbors who know every last detail of who comes and goes My advice on swimming with sharks (not that you asked for it) is don’t tempt fate. Seriouly, I’d panick if that were me. Good on you for keeping cool. |

I had ADT once.
When on vacation our pet sitter had the cops show up with guns drawn. Scared the hell out of her delicate self. I think her main confrontation previously was snarky cats. I had her turn the alarm off from that point on. |

We had a great local provider, fella wanted to retire and ADT bought him out for quite a few quid. Shame really as they provided top notch service and were a local firm.

I used ADT for several years with no real complaints except the feeling you get when you buy a new car....that you just got ripped off....to me they are over priced for you get.
I started calling around and found, I hope, a better security outfit for a little less money ...but now i have to camera's one at front door and one on back patio that i can access from cell phone and this week im putting another camera in the living room. Not to advertise but they are better deals than ADT. Im always worried to death over my cats when im out so the inside camera will let me check on them if im stuck in doctors office for 4 hours or more. |

Enjoy your vacation Seth!
If you decide to dump ADT, I'd recommend a good independent who uses DSC equipment. Very reliable products. |

Looks like Paradise Seth. Enjoy your trip brother.
As for ADT, we have had lots of issues over the years. We dumped them and set up our our system which so far is useful and much more cost effective.

At the airport heading home.
Kind of excited to see the status of my home and it’s contents. More excited to see the dogs. They’ve been all alone for 5 days. They must have to go to the bathroom something fierce.

And just got in.
No break ins happened. I will need to block off some time and call ADT to express my thoughts. I’ll likely record it for quality control purposes.
