5107p, how special?
Hi, first thread in the Patek Philippe section.
I have owned many Patek references but currently only have one, 5124g Salmon dial, which I loved from the day it was announced. I have a good opportunity to buy a 5107p who's provenance is solid and who's condition is very good. I love the look of the Platinum case with matt black dial. My question is regarding the "specialness" of the reference. I know it was not made for long and in far fewer examples than the other metals and commands a large price premium, although there are so few in the market a fair price is also hard to determine. I would appreciate as much information as possible from the membership about it. Thanks |

I like it, and you've hit the nail on the head re: pricing. What're you offering for it?

I'm thinking around 23-25k USD. The ask is a lot higher. It is just so hard to tell how rare it is, critical information before I can entertain offering more. Just on looks alone I feel a large premium over the other metals is justified.

i would be careful equating metals with premiums in this crazy market, but i think you're smart to offer quite a bit below an ask which is likely just a fishing expedition from the seller.

It's the look of the platinum with black that takes it to another level over the white gold, which I have seen numerous times. I'm starting to become a little obsessed. The sport model hype does make it easier to be firm and come from a position of strength, not to many chasing Calatravas these days.

I love the 5107 and the 5127 and the 5107p is my favorite of them. It's a difficult watch to find and, my guess, will cost you nearer to 35K US.
I was looking for one for a while but eventually purchased a 5227g black dial which is larger, has the superb hunter case back and can be purchased, new, for less that the 5107p pre-owned. |

I had a 5127r for a few years, I really liked the crown guards and the screw down crown. Thanks for the pricing information, I hope the seller doesn’t come on the forum |

I like the 5107P and in my book it is a good idea to get a semi-vintage / halfway modern Calatrava in the rarest metal while they generally don't get much love. Personally I went 3998P as I wasn't sure about the crown guards and wanted a silver dial as I have had a black one on my daily beater...

Platinum and SS Calatravas are certainly rarer than the gold ones. Future value is always unknown and depends on future demand for the watch. Get it if you like it and enjoy!
