"FACINATION" with Stainless Steel..!

I just do not get the fascination with a stainless steel watch except it was the cheapest watch to purchase from paticual watch companies and now they have turned into a flipper... I am not impressed by a stainless flipper myself and find it kind of silly actually.... They have only become popular when they can not be found for retail and at one time you could not give them away..

So, at one point you couldn't give a Submariner away? Really. Can you back this up?

Yes it is crazy that SS is worth the same or even more than PM on some models. Fashion is fickle! I don’t doubt it will correct in time and we’ll all have a good chuckle about it.

What my take on this stainless flipper is that if you can snag one at MSRP, you have just scored a lifetime masterpiece..NAHHH Do not and will never buy into the stainless hype. I am not saying there is nothing at all wrong with a stainless steel watch but 99% of its craze is getting one at MSRP and how much more can I flip it for..

'at one time you could not give them away' is a long bow son.

Whilst it does have some metallurgical advantages, everything else being equal a white precious metal would be a more luxurious choice for most pieces if the stand out of YG or RG wasn’t desired.

Beach to boardroom to instagram versatility.

Luxury is now an active lifestyle that includes well made, exclusive, inclusive and durable products that can be anywhere whenever.

Hit the beach in the AM...meet the financial advisor after lunch, post some instagrams, meet up with Broski and the crew for a boat run to islands for dinner. Maybe hit a club after?? Effortless and carefree lives need accessories to match.

SS fits that bill.

They were built for adventures...just now the definition of adventure has changed a bit from spelunking

If you are so keen on a ultimate stainless flipper, you can buy any amount of them you want for the right price. Look at Jomashop and DSW for instance. They have plenty of stainless flippers for everyone to go around.

‘Beach to the Boardroom’ is a recurring phase.

How many people are a member of a board?
How many board members hit the beach before work?

It’s not necessary for all two members of TRF who fit this bill to tell me they exist

SS is so understated and classical. TT and YG are too much bling.

Nice blanket statement.

Not all SS watches are popular. You can get a VC overseas at a discount still. Great watch.

However, if you want a Rolex it is true for the most part. Rolex is the #1 watch brand in the world. It is not even close. Not by a mile. All the other brands chase it.

As a collector you can live in the past or the present. I tend to live in the present whilst remembering the past. That is why I don't get hung up on the super case complaint or PCLs. A lot of collectors live in the past and unlike the brand do not evolve.

Rolex has history and right now is a part of it. You can turn your back if you want.

But having a problem understanding is ignorance. Never has Rolex been as popular as it is in Asia. I know for people in North America and Europe they can't get it. However, it appears you live in the Asia market. You should know the Asia market has irrationality and IS BIGGER than the other markets. It dictates the trend. Sorry.

Blaming people for profiting off a watch sale is idiocy in its highest sense. Saying it is wrong to flip is a personal opinion. It is no crime. The market allows it and is free so they are free to do so.

If you think SS is cheap go PM - they are obtainable at retail.

At one time perhaps a decade ago, AD'S could not move the Hulk. They sat and collected dust and needed to be discounted significantly

It’s softer. Heavier. A bit stodgy for the cool kids. Old money vibes...etc

It has its place...sure.

I came here for overpriced unnecessary stainless steel items... nothing just more stainless flipping banter.. I’m out.

https://m.pinkbike.com/news/alutech-...ncd-frame.html

Here’s some fancy CNC bike porn that costs a bit more than a stainless flipper

That’s my typical Tuesday too.

But I rock my G Shock when meeting my financial advisor. Don’t want him to get the wrong idea ya know?

Exactly. SS is only popular in watches. Everywhere else, you’d be shamed....

Certain watches are just better in SS. Strictly from a Rolex market if an explorer was available in precious metal and stainless i'd still prefer steal. I like my PM pieces, but there's a place for them.

SS is more accessible for the general market. Dropping 6-10K is a lot more viable than 30K.

Maybe if my age but I have a way more draw to SS. If you offered me PM sub or a SS Royal Oak I’d take the RO.

PM is softer so maybe more suitable to the more benign environments - the Office, drink with friends, see a show, rather than gardening and working on the car.
Also heavier which is an issue for smaller wrists where a heavy watch tends to rotate around the wrist.
I'd love a YG DD but wonder if it would be comfortable to wear.

Not in Oz.

And they were never ever ‘given away’.

You could say they were available?

In any event I apologise for prolonging this pointless thread.....?.?

I will definitely defer to the OP, our resident expert, when it comes to what is “silly” to spend money on. Nobody does silly better.

Hypes come and go, there is no reasoning why people behave like they do with this SS craze.
I prefer PM so i am looking in amusement about what is going on
