Ricciardo brought Renault down last year, right from the opening 10 seconds in Melbourne, trying to overtake on the grass.

Then in Azerbaijan he overshot and backed back into Kyvat, that was beyond stupid.

Then in Brazil he crashed into the back of Magnussen and Ricciardo finished last.

Ricciardo most time acts like a clown and is unbalanced in his professional demeanour.

At the same time, Ricciardo ran away from Red Bull because he couldn't stand the pressure from Verstappen and his ego could not handle a superior driver in the same team. It's little wonder Ferrari overlooked Ricciardo and went with the more stable and higher ranking (last year) Sainz.

McLaren may live to regret contracting Ricciardo.

I think you’ve correctly identified that there’s a string or two of racing dna missing in Ricciardo’s genome.

McLaren would’ve been better off contracting Covid-19 methinks. Because this extended silly season (due to lockdowns) has uprooted the gods of logic in F1.

Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to the restart too. Not sure I’ll be tuning in for the second run of Austria/GB, I’m not sure there’ll be much difference in the result from one week to the next.

You missed the point I was making. Not that literally contract Covid-19.

Steve had said McLaren might regret contracting Ricciardo. It was my way to agree - that they might’ve been better off contracting Covid-19 (in context, not actually contracting it but to emphasize how bad it was to contract Ricciardo).

So it was a figurative metaphor for a bad situation.

Agreed, but I’ll be tuning into all of the races. I need my F1 fix

I’m curious to see how the rest of the schedule pans out.

I'm guessing Liberty is going to do whatever they can to squeeze the highest fee paying races that have been cancelled/postponed. I'm looking at you Bahrain and Baku.

Dan Ric is a bit like Jensen Button, talented driver, fair racer, but did not land a straight out top drive and bouncing around teams. Hopefully Dan Ric will end up like Button and get at least one WDC.

I think F1 could entice you if they ran opposite direction for each 2nd round at same track.

Yes two-directional certification was popular in the past. But not as much today.

There are still some tracks I’ve certified that way. Don’t know F1 could do it though.

Agree 110%! Threads have gotten locked or posts deleted when people reference COVID-19 in many contexts.

Let’s get back to F1 chat

The Official Formula One Thread!

€5000 fine for wheel nut?

Thought that might get this discussion primed for lots of silliness...or choose from any of the free topics below.

Fernando coming back...
https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/a...9L9gDyga9.html

Red Bull definitely not interested in Seb...

A new track (owned by Ferrari) on the schedule. One that Ferrari knows best. Mugello...

Definitely fortunate that it also didn’t launch into a marshal’s station either

Even with cost caps, it’s an expensive game.

Article 2.1, 3.2, Appendix 6 Paragraph 1, 2(a) and 2(c) - just part of the rules.

Teams with listed parts in in their cars can only use those parts which are designed by it.

Renault is after the Merc customer team RWT Racing Point right now.

https://www.racefans.net/2020/07/12/...lap-collision/

Leclerc made a bad choice, admitted it, but needs to work on his previsioning and situational awareness.
No excuses - isn’t a Ferrari error in and of itself - both drivers knew the team orders. One driver error can make a team look pretty stupid.

Ferrari has really suffered technically. No excuse for that. They have the resources but not really best ideas.

Vettel’s impending departure weighs on the team’s staff - many wonder which ones Sainz will want retained.

Ferrari, seem to be waiting to see what mod's M-B have come up with.
They'll be up to speed, once they've copied them.
Maranello will also be very busy at the moment, protesting.....about something.

Good news, I've got a race team coloured Mercedes.

Naa, they should save $$$ and wait for 2021 for any real development work with their new drivers. Why waste money on Vettel, i surely wouldn't?
