Question about the rules here

I posted a thread about aftermarket GMT bezels yesterday (aftermarket, not fake) in and effort to see pics of five digit GMT with non-traditional color bezels. My thread was nuked and I didn't get a private message as to why; however, as we all know, threads with aftermarket watch bands are encouraged. What is the difference between the two as to the rules here?

Thanks.

Plenty of pictures on here of watches with aftermarket dials, bezels and straps. That does not make them fake

Yes. For example, an aftermarket bracelet wouldn't have a Rolex crown on it, but a fake bracelet would. An aftermarket bezel in a color Rolex never made for that model would not be fake, but one made in the same color Rolex has made is fake.

So these aftermarket parts come from a Rolex factory and are licensed by them?

Imo, there is no "aftermarket" - these are all fakes!

if it says "Rolex" and Rolex didn't make it, its fake. Most aftermarket dials are fake. Thats also different from modding a dial that is genuine Rolex and putting it on a watch it doesn't belong on.

Anything not pretending to be Rolex and does not include any Rolex logo or trademark is aftermarket and not fake. IE Rubber B straps, which are clearly not pretending to be oyster flex.

Where do we encourage the use of aftermarket watch bands?

I would say that if an aftermarket part were made to look different than an authentic part, no big deal. It's custom at that point. If it's meant to look like the real thing, it's a replica (fake).

I have aftermarket Everest straps that fit the case and clasp perfectly, just like the ones from Rolex. Are they fake? No. Are they a copy of the original? No. They have their own design.

Think of high end wheels for cars. BBS comes to mind. There are many replicas on the market to get the same look, but those are fakes in my book. A fresh design for a wheel that fits a car isn't.

Fake requires intent to decieve

Aftermarket or pattern does not. A genuine rolex dial, repainted by a third party is not fake. A Bamford or other specialist aftermarket modifier does not sell "fake" watches.

People buy non oem parts in life all the time. From car parts to watch parts. That does not make them "fake"

Ive seen plenty of aftermarket diamond bezels shown here and no one clams the watches are fake. Simply modified.

Aftermarket is aftermarket and fakes are illegal counterfeits - we know the difference.

Threads are moved off the boards for more reasons than just being about fakes. I do not know the thread you are speaking of and each Mod has a different threshold, but if it started to become controversial, or raised temperatures, it would have been moved to avoid otherwise good members from receiving infractions or worse.

It appears by your discussion here that you knew a thread as you describe would/could be controversial.

We're not PC here, so, generally, nobody is going to pm you to make sure that you have a warm fuzzy about our actions.

If it wasn’t made by Rolex, but has Rolex trademarked markings, it is fake. The maker intended to deceive by using someone else’s trademarks (rather than his own) to promote the sale of his product using the good name of the stolen trademarks.

A resprayed dial is a refinished original part. Like getting your car painted. That’s completely different than selling an aftermarket hood and putting a Ferrari badge on it. OEM parts are labeled with the manufacturers marks. Aftermarket parts are not. Try to sell aftermarket aviation parts with OEM marks and you’ll spend some time in prison when they catch you.
