Grand Seiko.IWC Aquatimer is typical large series watch, powered wit ETA movements, which is nothing wrong, but GS got it`s own in-house made movement. And looks much, much better.

Well, these two brands are quite different. IWC does great work finishing their movements and are a true luxury class watch. Seiko is no slouch when it comes to horological achievement and if you are on a strict budget I would go Seiko. But if you are asking my advice, hands down I would pick IWC. Best of luck either way.

Is the Grand Seiko going to be that much less than the IWC Aquatimer? I would think both are going to be about the same price.

I own neither, but having looked at some images, I think the GS is a very classic looking watch and the Aquatimer is not really my cup of tea.

I have never been a fan of dive watches with an internal bezel adjusted by a second crown, and like the more traditional look of an exterior rotating bezel.

I would go for the GS, which, unless you are in Japan would likely be more unique, in addition to having what I think are better asthetics. I like the crown guard on the GS, and would not like the lack of any protection for either crown on the Aquatimer.

The Aquatimer looks better on the rubber strap than the bracelet:

Depends on your taste...

Here's my IWC

Mine is the split minute version which is much more expenseive ($9 - 10m). In terms of quality, craftsmanship, and image, I think the IWC wins hands down. If you are more budget constrained then the Seiko. Good luck in your decision.

An IWC Aquatimer against a Seiko?

That's like comparing a Lexus with a Maybach.

Cheers

I'm more and more intrigued by Seiko, and their quest for precision, every day. I hardly consider IWC to be a Maybach, considering the founder of IWC was American . . . .

I do like certain IWC models, but for the life of me I can't figure out why they added the Top Gun logo to the side of the ceramic case on their Big Pilot limited!

A very interesting and informative article about Seiko

That silly logo is what made me pass on a Top Gun ceramic.

I'd say it's more like an NSX vs. a Boxster. The Grand Seiko is not a typical Seiko.

Incidentally, if anyone is interested in a Top Gun, I just saw one today at a shop in Barcelona. Starting price before negotiating was 8,500 Euros. Piece was in mint condition, with box, papers, etc.
