So, a Guy Walks into a Rolex Service Center

The Rolex Service Center in NYC doesn’t have a great reputation when it comes to servicing/helping with vintage watches, but I gotta give them kudos for hooking me up.

I went there the other day with my Daytona 6263 (6.0 mil.) to buy new 571 end pieces for my bracelet. (I have the originals but they’re a little bent.) So, I did the usual handing over of my Rolex to the service fellow, along with the bracelet and a request to buy new end links. He admires the Daytona for a while and then scurries off, returning about 20 minutes later with my Daytona, the bracelet and brand new 571 end links that he offers to have installed for about $130. (Far cheaper than you see anywhere online.) Then I happen to mention how much I wish I could also buy a simple black Rolex leather strap and buckle for the Daytona, but that I know the company is a stickler for only selling what originally came on the watch, and that Rolex never sells loose parts anyway.

The guy vanishes again, then returns with this great 19mm Rolex leather strap with curved ends, along with a stainless steel Rolex buckle. The packaging on the strap looked discolored and ancient, like it had been in a drawer for a couple of decades. “You’re in luck,” he said. “I found this in the back.” So, of course, I bought them (about $160), and now I have an authentic Rolex leather strap and buckle for my 6263, and brand new end pieces for my bracelet. I guess Rolex is relaxing its rules a little. I was pretty sure I could get the end links, but the strap was a big surprise.

I’ve actually never seen this strap before (ref. 380077), and I can’t even find a reference to it online. Not sure it beats the bracelet, but it’s nice to mix it up.

Way to go Swish! I had a RSC experience here in Dallas a couple weeks ago for a GMT bezel and walked out a couple hours later with a new bezel, bezel insert and retaining ring. I was even allowed to keep my old bezel insert. As a bonus, my watch was returned to me in a Rolex service pouch with polishing cloth. Nice.

Edit: The cost was $340 with tax for those interested.

Fantastic. I've never heard of Rolex allowing a customer to keep old parts. Maybe they are relaxing their rules. Good news!

Hope floats and a beautiful reference you have. I wish you would take me to the RSC as I have a healthy fear of bringing my Zenith Daytona there. My paranoia took hold after reading a few horror stories.

Bezel and retaining ring without getting the watch serviced? What has changed at RSC?
