An observation and Friday old man rant

First off, Im old tired and stay off my lawn

With that said, I wanted to talk about all of the Rolex "leaks" If most or all of these leaks are true, I would say that Rolex does not have the control over this they enjoyed in years past. I follow several watch youtubers and even the ones I consider legit are jumping on this "leak" bandwagon.

Not saying there have never been leaks in the past, but if this years' prove to be true I think it will be the largest breach Rolex has ever had. I think I have now counted 6 "for sures".

So if this is true Rolex has lost some of its' mystique, if you will.

Thoughts?

I would also be disappointed if these so-called leaks turned out to be true. Such a spoiler indeed and a sign of the times, I guess...

This thread seems a little premature

All we have are a bunch of social media people, who are desperate for ‘clicks’, claiming to have inside knowledge. But “they would say that, wouldn’t they”, to quote a famous court defendant.

Rolex have an excellent record of minimal leaks, so not sure why this year would be different

We will find out soon

Sorry, I can't relate as I don't pay attention to youtubers and other internet speculation. We will all know when Rolex updates their website in several days.

In addition to seeing what may be new, it is interesting to see what may be gone as well. That is more subtle and often manifests in a few threads on the Forum and sometimes ends up not being true.

Anyway, ignorance is bliss and time will tell. I am way too old to worry about it anymore.

1. Doubt they're genuine, too many inconsistencies in the photos.

2. You have to remember that Rolex has been rolling out new watches at these shows for a lot longer than anybody outside the industry has really cared. Not too many years ago, a "leak" would have been more of a "so what?" moment.

3. The leaks, if real, are photos of a physical book. To me that suggests that there are one or more journalists out there not respecting the embargo. Nothing to be done about that other than figuring out who, an never letting them in again. But journalistic integrity has been eroding for a while (this should be a good topic for an aging get-off-my-lawner :D).

I don't have an opinion on whether or not they are real. Time will tell... But weren't some of the supposed leaks from last year also pictures of a book that turned out to be false? Maybe I am misremembering...

No offense, but you can't be very "Old". Those of us who actually are "old" don't give a rats ass about wether or not Rolex leaks some bs about some potentially new style watch.

Take it for granted that Rolex will do whatever they can to sell you a watch at the highest price possible, as fast as possible. Good luck.

No idea if they are real either however.....

While Rolex may be secretive, their releases are kind of unexceptional from a "huge changes" perspective. Most of the time that is.

They typically release small changes like different colors, smaller sizes, new bezels, etc.

So with the said, it is not really hard to throw out ideas and be correct in some of them. Some of these could be less leaks than just guesses.

Example: They released a "left-handed" VTNR. Is it really that far fetched to speculate that they might release a "right-handed" VTNR?

Example: Guess different bezel color combos for a GMT. You might just be right.

My thought, "what are the six for sures?!". Sorry, but the leak posts are so disjointed. Hard to follow.

But yeah I agree. Rolex seems to have had someone create some major spillage.

Lots of garbage out on the internet. Youtube is like tabloids these days, just trying to get those clicks and views. Just wait and see what they do next week :)

I was watching a Theo & Harris vid the other day and they flat out said "If we don't put Rolex somewhere in the title the video gets no views". LOL

There were six supposed photos of a new catalogue, all posted from a single social account. I think it was:

Daytona, full-YG, meteorite, ceramic bezel
Daytona, platinum, Oysterflex
Sub, TT RG
Sub, full-YG, green dial/bezel
GMT, right-handed VTNR
Milgauss, 41mm, crown guards

However, when it came to the platinum Daytona, they made a really stupid mistake in the photoshopping, and had an even stupider explanation for it (up until then, the actual photoshopping had been pretty good). Coincidentally, they didn't share anything else after that...

I just got done calling the cops on the neighbor kid and I have another thought.......with "leaks" it seems most of them are the same, in other words no matter how many youtube channels you click on or how many forums you read, the majority of the "leaks" reported are about the same exact models. So this leads me to believe that you have an original source (be it legit of BS) and everyone holds the line for the most part.

Until you can hold a new model in your hand, it's all BS and silly speculation.

But he DID tell you he was. I know you've been dying to use that zinger...but swing and a miss .

The point is, there is zero real value to knowing a month, a week or even 20 minutes ahead of everyone else. A bunch of people who are simply trying to get eyeballs on themselves do this every year and it's all just a bunch of noise. The fear of somehow missing out on something seems to drive a large number of people in a way that essentially leads to missing out on important things...e.g., go to a concert but miss it because you are filming it to show your friends what great concerts you go to.

From one old man to another, I'd be shocked if the leaks pan out. Rolex is (or at least has been) a hermetically sealed black box.

If you ever snuck down to the Christmas tree after Mom & Dad were fast asleep - and peeked at the packages - then you ought to like the sneak peeks and speculation about the next new Rolex model.

If you ever kept biking down the trail for the next great vista, then the same for you…

If you ever said, “one more hour” when digging clams in the hopes of filling the pail, then the same for you…

So long as I’ve been on TRF, this has been “silly season” and it’s always been fun speculating.

I get that new members may not like it - my advice is just don’t open the thread.
