Your deposit at an AD and how long did you wait?
Hello all.
Just wanted to do a quick informal poll. How many of you have left a deposit at an AD for a watch, and how long did you have to wait before you finally got the call? Doesn't have to be just Rolex. Could be any watch. Thanks! |

Bought my Milgauss 'off the shelf' so no deposit.
Paid 25% for my Explorer at local AD after web enquiry - got the call within the week. While picking up the Explorer put a 25% deposit for the GMT LN and waited 6 weeks. |

I've never had to make a deposit on any watch regardless of the model.

Most AD's here in the UK don't take deposits.
It's funny how the rest of the world operates. It's a disgrace to have to leave a deposit with these types of companies. If the deposit was left to Rolex, or put into a third parties hands. I would have no issue. But the fact you handover your money to an independent jeweller that you have no idea of their financial infidelities is disgusting to me. They could be collecting 100's of 'Deposits' and making a lot of money from that. It's a terrible practice. |

I'm one of the lucky guys who prefer the "Classic" line. No waiting and no deposits. No complaints.

At one AD out West, I placed $1,000 deposit on March 22, 2016 for the White dial Daytona (stated I was 4th on the list) - haven't received anything and am getting the run around each time I call.
At another AD closer to home, I put a deposit of $1,000 for a CHNR in June, watch came in Aug. (ended up passing and moving the funds to another watch). |

My AD said they don't take deposits on Rolex but they do on Tudor. Not sure why.
Offered to put a deposit down on a Tudor GMT but so far they haven't accepted one from me. |

I too never pay a deposit - Maybe its a UK thing.
A wiseman once told me that there are 2 types of bad payers. One that does not pay & one that pays early. |

I have probably purchased around 30 Rolex's from AD's dating back to about 2000. The only time I was asked to leave a deposit was in about 2002 when I asked a dealer to add my name to the list for a SS Daytona. He required a $500 deposit, and said it'd be 1 to 2 years.
About a year later, he called and said I have a black dial that's yours if you want it. I snatched it up, and during the transaction as about being put back on the list for the white dial, as I desired to own both. He said, "no problem" and put me down. I asked if he needed a deposit again and he simply said, "no, we're good". That was the one and only time I was asked to put down a deposit. BTW, I have 4 AD's here in WI that I've purchased from over the years. Basically down to two that I still frequently visit now, but neither of those has even ever mentioned a deposit. |

Paid full amount for both Tudor BB GMT and BB58 after being told this was only way to secure both models with the metal bracelet...
Delivery promised at end of October after paying for both on the 13th Sept 2018 - with an AD that I have already bought from before (1 x Tudor BB Black/ETA version, 2 x Tudor BB 36mm -for myself and my wife and also BB Metal Bracelet - no deposits required before ever). Am still waiting for my watches..... Was told on Sunday, that this maybe by the end of November now for the BB58 and January 2019 for the GMT (due to the delay caused by the date issues and also my ask for the metal bracelet version)... First time I have ever had to put money up front and then wait on the watches that I have bought to be delivered (never ever done this for any of my watch collection - including the Rolex's). And to be fair to the AD (who has been upfront on this one all the way), this delay/shortage appears to be down to Tudor not delivering sufficient stock to the ADs, despite being requested... |

I’ve never left a deposit for a Rolex watch, and I’ve probably purchased 10 of them from ADs. I did have my name on the list for a SS white Daytona, but didn’t have to put any money down.

August 2016 paid $6,000 deposit on white Daytona. Still waiting, but:
a) have never bought a watch there (have done small other business) b) have come *this close* to cancelling numerous times, but know it's my only shot at a white Daytona c) I'm not especially proud of this decision, but fell hard for the watch after 30 years outside the game

I don't understand the big hoo haa over leaving a refundable deposit. You're going to be paying sooner or later so what's the problem of leaving 20%?
I have offered my AD a deposit but they have declined each time. |

My AD asks for £500 per order. We ordered two watches, one for each of us - £500 deposit. I ordered a Tudor GMT - £500 deposit. I ordered a Blusey in May - £500 deposit. The Blusey came in at the end of October, so 5 months. The two watch order took less than a month (both non Rolex). I spotted a Z-Blue in my AD's window when passing one day and transferred my Tudor GMT deposit to the MSRP for the Z-Blue.
I think it's just to make sure you are serious. I'm sure there is a lot of variation between ADs. My AD will refund if I change my mind. I'd give them more to go onto a real list with a real prospect of getting what I ordered. I believe that in this respect my AD plays straight. They don't take higher deposits. |
