Nice review and beautiful watch! I agree on the date. I think it adds clutter to a chronograph. And having had a date on my DJ for a long, long time, I don't miss it on my Daytona. And it's easier to set.

I gotta say, I never, ever notice the asymmetrical lugs on mine. And I also agree -- it's nice to see cons, as it seems more analytical rather than cheerleader-y.

Enjoy this great and beautiful watch!

Just trying to give a fair review. No watch is perfect right?

With respect to the asymmetrical lugs I think it is only like that for the stainless steel and two tone models. The lugs are symmetrical for the precious metal variants. Not sure why Rolex did this. I heard Rolex said that it was done for balance as the right side of the watch was heavier looking because of the Chrono pushers and crown guards

Great watch mate and must admit I'm still in love with my white dial!

In reference to one of you cons, I purchased a glidelock and had it polished to match the PCL but did find it made the watch a little unbalanced and looked a little out of place on such a slim profile watch head.

I ended up swapping back to the OEM clasp.

Ha! No wonder I still like my watch. FWIW, I started out in love with the white 116500, and got sucked in here and got tired of waiting for my SS one to come in. Still waiting... It is really an awesome watch, and makes more sense than what I got, but I couldn't be happier.

Cosmograph Daytona Ceramic 116500LN - SHORT REVIEW

White dials and Black dials were on the 116520. Nothing new there...and cosmetically they are same as older models.

For example, the White dial:

The 116500 White dial has black surrounding the subdials which is a throwback to the 5-digit model 16520 seen below.

The 116500 Black dial is unchanged over the different models methinks.

Regardless of this a 116500 is not a 116520

Just like a 116610LN is not a 116610LV

The 116500 black dial has different silver sub dials to the 116520.

Each to their own but how can you say these are the same

The only new thing on the SS Daytona is the ceramic bezel - easy to see. Doesn't reduce its allure.
I am definitely on the list for a black dialed one...

Guess it's an individual thing I had the white 116520 and just didn't bound with it, found the SS bezel marked to easily and the bezel markings looked dated to me. It didn my last long in the collection.

The white 116500 however is everything I wanted the 116520 to be, ceramic bezel with the more modern looking marking and I love the black/white contrast of the dial, to add to the above I also found the white 116520 dial to look a little washed out, not so on the 116500.

Yes technically the 116500 is only a minor update of the 116520 but visually to me it's made a huge difference hence now being in the collection.

Must add the black has grown on me and may make its way in to join the white.

It's naive to say only the bezel is new. White dial 16520 & 116500 looks identical at a glance but D500 is new.
Whereas the black dial is exactly the same.

The more I see that black ceramic bezel, the more I am sold on it!

Really nice photos!!!
Congrats for the beautiful daytona!
Actually Rolex already can make the watch waterproof even no screw for the pushers. It is already proven in Yacht Master II

Thanks for the nice review. I for one think that it's fair to compare "completely different" watches. As an SD4k owner I appreciate knowing what the differences are and what you felt was better/worse relative to the SD4k.

Thanks! I agree with you. Comparisons versus similar watches (ie other Daytonas or Omega Moonwatch or Breitling Navitimer or ?) are the logical match ups, however comparisons versus "completely different" watches (ie SD4K) make sense as well (esp when the watch can be used in different situations)

But that's just me...

I could have compared the Daytona to my Omega Moonwatch but it didn't like the right comparison to me as I was wearing my SD4K and BLNR on a more daily/routine basis back then.

These days, I typically rotate between Daytona/BLNR during weekdays and BLNR on the weekend. If traveling, I have the Daytona and a Seiko SRPA21 PADI
