That's weird. Looks a bit like hand rub but none of them reach that far...

You'd have to change it. What do they say - 80% of the value in a vintage Rolex is in the dial?

Somebody where to get a dial like this? Original for 1988. Has to be glossy, tritium and date on the dial.

It appears that those are either service marks, simply improper handling of the dial when it's de-cased, or it was refinished and the paint is chilling. Without having it in hand to tell, I would vote service marks from improper handling.

80% of the value of the watch is in the dial? You actually made me LOL.
So this gmt is worth $1200 ($6k*.8) ? Anyway, i must be an eternal optimist. these gmt dials can be found;. I don't believe they are uber scarce. Dating one to exactly 88 is not possible. I enjoy looking for parts and wearing my projects. It's a beauty as is! |

Regardless of how it happened, the dial in the first post is definitely damaged.

for a more affordable alternative there are dial restoration companies that can re-apply the missing hash marks so the appearance isn't so distracting. i would look into this option first since the basic condition of the dial is fairly nice and it's not exactly a rare watch.

Im in the search for a dial, looks like its not impossible. if i find one thats glossy, tritium and has "date" on the dial i think i should be very close to 1988:-)
Is this watch only worth 6000 Dollars?? i hope its worth closer to 9000 dollars, its the last serial of 16750 with box and papers. And if somebody has a better/cheaper R-serial (1988, birthyear), please contact me! :p |
