Explorer 1016

Opinions requested on the 1016 below. 1.7m serial number. Seemingly a tritium service dial. No box or papers or even bracelet. Case seems pretty good. What would a reasonable buy price be in the UK?

Thanks.

Hello Gabriel, I did a quick look see and came up with one that's on Chrono24. however it comes with box and papers, the price is on request.. the seller is Time Management International Ltd who are based in Mayfair London Tel.: +44 7977 469 568
Mobile: +44 7977 469 568, but Id hazard a guess that it would range between £10-15K... sorry I cant be of more help but there's others on here that will comment in due course, all the best "H"

Wondering how much of a negative is the service dial on one of these.

Just out of curiosity, are you certain it's a service dial? Unless I'm missing something on it to give it away, with that serial number range, a 1967 should have a matte dial, though I can't tell if the crown is a frog's foot.

The dealer claims the original owner had it serviced and the dial/hands were changed. I will have another look tomorrow and check the crown out.

Thanks for your comments.

I had another look, its a frog foot crown.

s/n 1.77m is 1964 or 1965? So close for matt mk1 but possibly a year or too early.

1.77mil is solid 1967 territory and start of Frogfoot dials

service dials and hands

Hello Gabriel, I cant add any more other than service Dial and hands are a part of its history as it is the same with my 1968 5513, this was my first Rolex and is for keeps, interestingly mine was service prior to buying, and as an advisory the RSC noted that the dial was beginning to deteriorate..... and so the cycle begins again,

Exactly. So, likely the original dial. And a gorgeous one at that.
