Datejust...What do you think?

Greetings,

I'm thinking of purchasing this 16013 DJ. Seller send me these so very clear pictures. How's the case in your opinion does it look over polished?

Thank you!

Clasp coronet on the bottom is too round, bracelet is maybe a fake. Need more and better pics of the watch, inside the case as well. Bracelet makes the whole watch suspect.

I was not suspecting the bracelet or movement but here are a few other pictures I got from the owner. I put more lighting using a photo editing program and the clasp reads 62523H 18

Really couldn't get enough detail on the bracelet but the deal killer for me is the case corrosion. This is what you want to see...

...the case back should be corrosion free as well. Also, check between the lugs.

I thought the black inside the case was rubber gasket residue. I'll have a look into that thank you.

This isn't gasket residue either...

DJs are the multitaskers of Rolex. Spear fishing in the morning, dinner out at night, changing baby in the middle. These old DJs were bought by people who wanted one watch that would do everything and that included a lot of diving over many years for some.

No one cleaned a watch in those days they were just a tool. Rolex recommended rinsing after seawater and if people did anything that was it. Some corroded cases result from acidic perspiration but the sea is the main culprit.

The OP's watch is a fairly light case but it never stops and you can never trust water resistance again. Valuable collector watches get acid treated and then welded and polished back to perfection, old DJs not so much.

There are plenty of clean case vintage Rolex, just make the effort to find one.

The effort I did do hoping to find one for a good price. This was 2.4k which was pretty reasonable IMO. I'll go have a look at the watch which is a few hours drive from my place. I'm still not convince with those pictures that it might not be oxidation but gasket gunk. I'll report back

Thank you
