Special Order Yellow Gold 1680/8 Sub!!!

Hey everyone!

I recently had the good fortune to unearth an amazing article in a Skin Diver magazine (1970) about a vintage gold Submariner. I had never heard this story before, and I'll bet most of you haven't either... this is a good one!

Very nice article! Thanks!

@Michael
Is that the one featured on your site that you spent so long looking for?
Did you really sell that one?

The sad thing is that unless the Family still has it,the Watch could be just floating around as a "regular" 1680/8.

great read. thank you for posting; it's one of the vintage models that doesn't have quite the same amount of publicity out there as say the Daytonas, so it's even more cool to read something like this. I consider myself very fortunate to have a nice example of this piece and plan to hold on to it for a long time!

Lovely watch, cute story but in reality the guys little nuggets were just chucked in the smelting pot with a few KG of other gold that went into that particular batch of cases. The idea that it's all made from his gold he picked up with his own hands is a fairytale.

What's the odds that this watch now mysteriously turns up in a short while after this smart bit of internet advertising?

It would have to have some Ironclad provenance to pull any premium over a standard 1680/8.

Superb example John and remember the day you got it. Looks like twin brother of my new one from the very same person Mr. Shear.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. The watch sat in a safe for years. Even the gold has patina. Ken I look forward to seeing yours. I am sure it's incredible. I will check the serial number when I get home. They could be twins.
