Bad pitting on case around dial edge on 2.4 mil 5513??

I’ve been offered this piece but have not seen this type of pitting before inside the case on dial edge. What could cause it? Thanks

It’s not inside the watch. It’s actually located under the crystals edge on the watch case itself where water gets trapped, also behind the crystal retaining ring as well. Because of the area the rust is, the crystal reflects or I should say projects it to look like it’s inside the watch..

It can be cleaned but the movement needs to be removed, crystal bezel all have to come off and the mid case/retaining ring need a very good scrubbing and ultrasonic cleaning. It’s common on older watches that have seen some diving.

Hard to tell without better pics but make sure those hands haven’t been relumed either.

Look at the minute hash marks between 7 and 23, and specifically at 16 minute hash. There’s pitting along the edge, and a large chip out of case at 17. I had circled the problem area in green to identify the problem areas.

The rust doesn’t bother me, I see the same with my 1680.

And I agree about the hands.

I didn't see that, but I see it now. So yeah, the missing metal on the inner chapter ring, that's pretty bad. Of course anything can be corrected with a competent watch maker and a little laser weld...

Contact LAWW for a quote before you pull the trigger, that way you can offset the cost of the repair with the purchase price of the watch. however, unless the price is very attractive, I would just find a watch with less issues.

If the price is right for the watch, then as mentioned above, I am sure the guys at LAWW can bring it back to perfection. They are really good at what they do.

For better or worse, it was sold out from under me. I’m curious to know the sale price, but it was a “taking offers” situation so I’ve no idea where it ended at.
