Focus and lack of emotion is key.

I had 42 profitable trades and 22 unprofitable. I don't obsess over the bad ones but I do keep an eye on them. If I thought it was a good trade I need to learn some things. Was I there at the wrong time? Was my analysis flawed? Was there an event that caused the opposite to happen from what I thought. I have bought back losers at lower prices because it was a good trade and made money.

I’m not dumb enough to think I can predict the markets.

But there is definitely a trend the last few years that I am following.

Any kind of “news” rattles the market. People are super quick to sell off. But no timing appears to stick. So far, there is no real news that has actually created a reason for a sell off.

So for now, if the market drops 3-500 points, I’m buying. Not a ton. But enough that I can take advantage. I’m also only buy stocks that I plan to hold for a long time. So even if it’s not a quick return to normalcy, I won’t be too concerned.

I have been saving for this for a while. And truth is if there is a real correction of a few thousand points, I’m not sure I’ll have the balls to part with any surplus cash.

For now, this is my strategy. As you say, crazy market.

One of my key long term holds. Massive scale in all areas and likely undervalued still.

So you made money

You could always buy it back. Or invest in something else. No one ever went broke taking a profit.

Ummm. Anyone looking at futures.

Wtf.

Tesla the last week? Bigger than all but VW?

Sorry, this all makes very little sense.

I know we shouldn’t try to time the market. And I’ve thought about selling and putting it all into cash before. I’d have lost out on a fortune if I did.

But I’m thinking about calling my guy...

I’m heavy into fixed income already. But still I’d like to minimize the losses that I think are inevitable.

Well there are many forces at work here. Look at Oil and OIL stocks, fossil fuels are severely out of favor. And getting worse, XOM cut to sell today.

TSLA has begun to hit critical mass, think of it as Ford Model T's rolling off the assembly line. They have barely begun to penetrate markets. Cities all around the world want to reduce emissions and pollution. ICE age cars are not the answer.

The Germans cannot make electrics, the Americans don't care because they believe they know everything. The Japanese are on the fence.

Finally when the momentum is moving a stock it can be hard to ignore.

All great insight. Ty.

Watching a segment on Tesla now.

And I’ll certainly check out the rest of what you say to educate myself further.

Thanks brother.

I think about this too, but so far things are good (and have been). Pre market trading was a surprise to me this morning!

No problem, I am certainly not recommending TSLA. I am just reporting information, people need to do their own homework.

Tesla’s joint venture partner Panasonic reported that their automotive battery business was profitable for the first time and that it was ramping up production to keep up with demand from the automaker.
Think scale . . . this is getting far larger, far faster in recent days.

Can't help but I do have a question.

What will you earn from cash? How long will you sit in cash? Nothing wrong with the strategy but you need a larger plan not just a reaction.

It’s not your timing in the market. It’s your time in the market.

I bought $1,000 in Home Depot stock in 1990. Have not sold any. Started taking the dividend two years ago. It’s worth $177K. Your mileage may vary, but even the S&P 500 has done well over that period. Generally, over a longer period, stocks perform better than bonds or cash. Over shorter periods, anything can happen.

I had TSLA at $50 a share years ago. This stock reminds me of bitcoin. I love Musk but I think it’s gotten a little ahead of it self. Musk is supposed to receive a big bonus for the way the stock has recovered. Who knows maybe he can pull it off and keep the stock elevated by delivering share holder value.

I shorted Tesla this morning at 892 and then changed my mind before it got filled. Just too risky, and a short has unlimited loss potential. We'll see what hindsight says tomorrow (it would have been a short-term trade).

All my trades (except for Larry's HRTX) lately have been short term. I'm just too scared at these levels to have any big position in anything. Missing out? Yes. Sleeping OK? Yes.

The open is going to be interesting if it holds, combination of misinformation about coronavirus, people got too pessimistic last Friday and now that they got out they are scrambling to get back in. Never a good strategy.

Ha. I’m exactly opposite.

I never sell on a dip. I try to buy.

But when things are too good, I’m fearful and want to sell.

Likely I’ll just hold. I’m invested like a much older person anyway with a huge percentage in fixed income.

But it’s when things seem too good and the greed gets to rampant that the bubble bursts.

Greed is good I always stay invested in the market for the long haul and buy great stocks on the dips. I love the semiconductor stocks and 5g.

Well hindsight 6 hours later tells me that it would have been a stupid move.

Still a ridiculous price for this stock and it will correct and it will be a bloodbath. The hard part is getting in (or out, depending on your perspective) right before it happens.
