5990A or 5980AR

I am in dilemma fellas, my AD just gave me the option of 5980AR next month vs 5990A mid to late next year. What would you all do if you were in my shoes considering how scarce nautilus are now a days?! Play it safe and get 5980 TT or wait for a SS Nautilus?

5990 for me. Solid watch, great useful complications. Full steal means it is never out of fashion and always desirable

5990. A TT watch is not an alternative even if its a Patek unless you want one. Not the same as getting offered a 5726 while waiting for a 5990 as that choice would be tougher for me.

5980AR is a great looking watch no doubt. I don't think i could pull it off personally

5990. Only get the 5980 if you prefer it. Personally I have trouble with the legibility of the chrono on the 5980.

get the AR. it is a fantastic watch. the 5990 is - to me- really boring, particularly the dial.
i repost my advertisement pics for the 5980AR:::)))
ps: i just checked in chrono24, for what it is worth. the least expensive AR sells for 10% less than list and the least expensive 5990 for 10% above list.
so the AR is not doing so badly, but of course the steel watch beats it. however, i suspect that not all the announced watches are really available...

I was offer an AR and passed on it. It’s a great looking piece with a nice dial, but TT was just to difficult for me to fit with my style.

I have the 5990 and it’s a great watch all around.

You need to see the watch in person as pictures really don’t do it any justice.

5990 as not a fan of TT. The dial is nice but as for a TT no thanks.

i'd much rather get a 5980A blue dial preowned than the 5990. aside from the rather boring dial color of the 5990 i dislike the date disk which i feel does not integrate harmoniously into the horizontally striped nautilus dial. this is just one more design plunder of the watch, other than the left pushers for the second time zone. since people here seem rather hung up on AR - which i understand, 1980-ies and so on - what is the general take in the 5980R with leather strap?

not for me. A. I like black and RG, not brown and RG so the dial and the strap don't do it for me. I also generally prefer a solid colored dial and the 5980R with the white isnt my favorite. The 1/R ticks all the boxes for me. Maybe a brown dial on a bracelet like the 5711R would be OK though.

The 5726 on a strap i like but its the only nautilus on a strap i would be interested in

interesting tyler....hmmm, why that? i do like the 5712R a lot (sold it because of fit issues but a beautiful watch), the 5726 strap never entered my thinking....1/R ...yes nice but a bit boring:::))) nevertheless mine will come in jan...
i'd rather have the 5740, but it is still a year away for me.
sorry, digressing.....

I like the AR dial more so if you are OK with TT I'd take it.

Can’t believe I’m saying this but I like the AR better. I just don’t like the 5990.

5980 AR is amazing in person- even if TT isn’t your thing - but 5990 is my choice.

Good to wait for 5990. It’s a great watch and worth the wait. Hope it happens sooner than later.
