Need help from the experts!!

Hi everyone,

This is my first post on this website, but I have lurked around and enjoyed many articles and reviews throughout the past few weeks.

I attached an image of a MK2 red submariner i just purchased. I was wondering what you would all do. If you notice that the minute hand has a chunk of lume missing. It doesn't bother me at all, but a few things do:

1. Can it get worse?
2. Does it affect the value of the watch?

Any and all info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Wow! Great looking Red Sub. Welcome to the Forum.
The missing lume is definitely a personal preference issue. If it were me it would bug me and I would either have it fixed or replaced and keep the original to maintain the overall "original" integrity of the watch...of course that assumes that everything is all original to begin with and for that assessment I will happily defer to the many experts here on the Forum.
More pictures are always welcome!!
Once again...welcome and great acquisition with that beautiful Red.

I would get the hands stabilized. Or try to source ones that match the patina on your dial.

Welcome.
1. Yes most likely it will especially if u bang it.
2. Yes. Look at no1

2 options, find a minute hand that matches the patina or get it relume.

Is the 6 o'clock Lume missing or a different color?

Maybe it is just me, but the lugs look a bit gritty or textured. Maybe it is the photo, or are they supposed to look that way? That would bother me more than the hand lume, if it is indeed unnaturally textured.

Great watch, BTW. A real classic.

So i bought the watch from european watch company, which has a great reputation. Im sure it is 100% original even though clearly not the cleanest example. Im thinking of taking it to Aaron Farber on Weds to look at the watch and potentially replace the minute hand. What do you guys think?

I think it adds character. Have them stabilized. Enjoy watch.

No big deal. The missing pearl on the bezel and lighter 6 o'clock marker would bother me more. And do yourself and favor and keep that nice watch away from Aaron Faber--a quick search on the Forum will give you plenty of reasons why.

I would have the hand repaired or replaced. The missing lume does nothing for the watch but detract from an otherwise very nice dial.

Do not worry about the 6 o'clock marker it aged differently. Might of been stored with minute hand on it. My snowflake has the same dilemma

Not to mention the flake off lume might get into the movement from the date window.

Also since its MF it should have a mk1 insert.

I'd get the lume stabilised from behind on that hand. Looks like the lume at 6 has gone.
Lugs at 1 & 5 are very 'worn'

Thank you all for the responses !!!
From what I understand the serial number makes it a mk2 or 3. Also, I received it in person on Tuesday and it is def a tropical dial, very subtle brown (very nice IMO). The 6oclock lume difference not as great in person as in the pictures. I actually spoke with Bob Ridley yesterday and I sent the watch off to him today. Im very excited to improve the watch and stabilize the hands. I will def post pictures when it gets back.

Thanks again!
