Seiko 6139, the watch that started it all

I wish I had some pictures to post, but anything would just be off the internet, I haven’t had a 6139 for some time but am inviting any of you guys to post pics of yours. That watch, was the one that started it all for me, it was the first watch I bought. It was 1974, I was 2 years old... OK OK, that’s a lie... I was 3.... Sigh. I was 13. I had a paper route, mowing lawns, various other odd jobs, and I saved up $95 to buy that watch brand new from my uncle’s jewelry store. It had a blue face and I wore it until my freshman year in college, when I traded it in for a Seiko Turtle. They were great watches.

Does anyone have an 6139s in their collection they would care to show?

Paul,
I have one and really enjoy it but away from my hard drive so can't post pics either. Should be able to tomorrow though.

Beautiful! Seiko (obviously) has had some iconic watches over the years, I would place the turtle in this category, but the 6139 was such an awsome design and incredible timepiece.

I don't have a 6139, but I got a 6138 that I enjoy very much.

It's '75 model and still looks fresh

Thanks, Paul! It's amazing how robust these classics chronographs are. I've had it 8 years, it dates to 1973, don't know the service history, but it runs great.

Here's another favorite, 6138 0040 Bullhead, circa 1977.

Nice watch! I never understood why the bullhead was not a popular model. I agree it’s a bit different looking, but a classic nonetheless.

Beautiful watches everyone! Truly iconic.

I was not smart enough to buy one when they were first released but have a Turtle remake I really enjoy wearing.

A Japanese seller I know, who is usually reasonable with pricing, has just listed this June 1969 JDM 6139-6000 for US$2,500

How can it be so much? I don't want to ask him why, in case there's an obvious reason that I have overlooked.

I almost purchased one (yellow dial) at Fort Sill, OK. when I was at Boot Camp. I didn't buy it. Wish I had.

Sounds expensive on the face of it, but I must admit that does look in absolutely stunning condition.

Almost factory fresh!

Considering its age is it advertised as NOS?

Does it say if the original box is with it?

Obviously this would bump the price up

Nice watch anyhow.

Thanks, Gerano! Not for sale at this time. Could change just don't know when.

That's a beauty, Jim!

Prices for all these vintage 70's chronos are going up. But you can still find some bargains if you look hard enough.

No, and it does have a few dings and scratches. I'm just wondering if JDM models are very rare.

Great watch but the prices are out of my range for this watch. I should have bought a number of years ago.
